Is there any size limitation on avatars from external hosts? I noticed Beer_Keg's avatar was 100+ kb in size and even signatures aren't allowed to exceed that...
I don't mean to complain but my connection is teh sux and pages take forever due to some avatar sizes.

Your avatar must be no bigger than 150 pixels by 150 pixels in size. Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 50 KB.
The following file types are allowed: gif, jpg, jpeg, png
It's posted in the place that you change your avater.
My avatar is 126KB and it's uploaded from another site different to that of SEN. Instead of uploading my avatar, I put a link to the place where my avatar is.
It shouldn't be slow really, just the first tmie and then it should be stored in your cookies.
Exactly. You can only upload avatar's to this site that are 50 KB or lower but external avatar images have no limit, as opposed to external signature images which have a 100 KB limit, understand what I'm saying?
In senv5, we might have it enforce rules. You aren't supposed to have a 100+ kb signature, but there's nothing stopping people from using a 500+ kb image, and it's been done.
I'm not sure what limits to oppose, if any, because on the flipside, if your connection sucks, you could turn avatars and/or signatures off.
You DO however, cache these images in your browser. It may be slow the first time you view it, but as long as you dont empty your cache, it'll be fast everytime. Just don't have overly huge signatures. I know zombie sent me once a few that were over a megabyte in size. That will annoy me and I will remove it. But if you keep it under 500kb, I'll *ignore* it...
You only say that because your signature is 183 KB.
Its 94.78kb, actually, which is what I'd PREFER sigs to be - under 100kb.
I don't even think anyone really knows how to compress images either.
Here's Yoshi's at 32kb. The loss of quality from compression isn't really noticable at higher resolutions, but there is some.

hmm.... Well, when i went on IE here once, i had alot of fun looking at the bottom of the page and seeing
Loading [USER]'s avatar....
... ...
Loading [USER]'s Signature
... ... ... ...
Loading [USER]'s Signature.
... ...
Loading [SOMETHING.JPG]
... ... ...
And so on. With Safari and FireFox, i never got ANY of that crap.
In Firefox/Mozilla I believe viewing the pages information, then going to media will show you all images. Unfortunately it doesn't filter out duplicates.
props to your avatar n20 simpson

I am an IE user, I come here and I see everything within 1 second, except a few things at the bottom. But that lasts for a maximum of 4 seconds.
Only exception is my "Post a Random Picture" thing in the garbage forum, but that is because its like 500 links to random pictures all over the internet.
