Is cracking your knuckles bad for you? Some say it is because u'll get arthritis, but some say it isnt.
I pop just about all of my fingers except for my thumb. I pop both the joint connecting the finger and the hand and the one connecting the lower half of the finger to the upper half. I pop all of my toes as well, except for my big one since i already popped it waaaay too much and now i cant bend my toe forward, but i pop the other joint that connects the two parts of the big toe. All this popping is starting to make me... wonder.
I had a science teacher 8th grade year and some of our students asked her whether popping your knuckles was bad. She was like "No, all it does is just release air that was trapped inside your knuckles" and we were like "Oh really! Cool" and all of a sudden, everyone just started cracking their knuckles.
But really, is it harmful for you?
I think that the 'air' is actually something you don't want being seperated from your knuckles. Actually I don't know jack about how it works, but yeah, I hear it does cause carple tunnel (sp?) syndrom if you overdo it.

I am pretty sure you get artheritus [however you spell it] from doing it ot much. I suggest not popping your knuckles.
Popular belief is that it wears down the cartilage quicker, but I'm not sure myself.
Too late, i can't stop now. Now it will feel a bit funky if i leave em unpopped. And i do my fingers by instinct now. But yes i can try and stop popping my toes.
I pop my big toe a lot, like when I keep it straight for a while, and just bend it, it pops. Sometimes happens with my kneeds.
Ah, it happens to my knees and ankles a lot, but I don't do it deliberately. It sounds like a whip cracking.
Those kind of cracking knuckles (where it comes due to lack of movement of joints) come naturally and those pops sound lighter. Whereas if you forcefully pop your knuckles, those tend to be bigger and deeper sounds (sometimes)
I'm sure as hell there is no air in your knuckles and there never will be.
I remember reading from somewhere that cracking knuckles' sound comes from the liquid between your joints moving from one side to another very quickly causing this poping sound.

Question: Does cracking your joints especially the knuckles cause arthritis? What
are some of the results of doing so?
Renee Knuckles/Albemarle High School/Charlottesville, VA.
Answer:
Cracking knuckles has NEVER been associated with causing arthritis.
This concept is as wrong as saying weight lifting makes you short, or
playing basketball makes you tall.
The "popping" of the knuckles results from forcing joint fluid to
very rapidly pass from one side of the joint to the other, where the
"sides" are partitioned off by the main bones of the joint. Let me
rephrase that: a joint is an area where two or more separate and distinct
bones meet. The joint fluid provides a cushioning between the joints
so that they don't grate into each other. Cracking your knuckles forces
the joint fluid from one part of the joint to another, and the popping
sound is just the result of the high pressured rushing of fluid.
Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by the loss of joint fluid from the
joint, but it results from damage to the linings of the joint itself.
It's tempting to claim that the high pressure flushing of fluid during
a knuckle "crack" can cause damage to the lining, but there simply is no
evidence to that effect. It was probably made up by some very sensitive
individuals who hate the "pop".

Same.
Actualy, I think it's more that I usualy do something with my hands(used to be doing this weird swinging thing), but I can't stand when it feels like I can pop my knuckles.
But it seems to be bad. My fingers have recently started hurting for no reason, it reminds me oddly of knuckle popping, and there doesn't seem to be any cause.
Some doctors say it isn't good for you some say that it makes no difference. The split is something like 45/55. Truth be told nobody really know much about the physiology of popping knuckles. I've asked several doctors myself, and found that ratio on a website that seemed pretty reliable.

I still don't do it.
What's weird for me though is that my knuckles don't pop, but other joints in my body. (knees and shoulders mainly) This might be closely related to popping knuckles.
From what i've heard, it may cause your fingers to develop irregularly, usually causing your fingers to be crooked eventually.
There's something weird about my right middle finger.
If I 'pop' it a certain way, I can do it over and over again.
Not really sure if it's actualy popping or something weird is happening, but it certainly seems like it is...
Same with my ankles. If I move them right it feels like they're popping.
Use to be able to do it with my neck.
I can pop my jaws!
I can pop my knees(I get down on my knees and lean forward so that that big... thing is pushed up).
I'd think that joint popping is bad for you. My jaws hurt too when I move them in such a way that pops them.
And cracking knuckles can hurt sometmes.
hmm..... well, still i dunno. But i hvant cracked my fingers in at least a year, so i dont have to worry. If you dont start, you have to worry about stopping. I only cracked my thumb like... a wek ago because it wouldnt move very far.
I'll never be able to pop my knuckles the same way again...
Fluid..
Yucky.
I also just cant stand it when people pop their necks.
It makes me cringe, cuz it also gives me the impression that everytime you crack ur neck, you weaken your neck bone, making you more suseptable to breaking your neck

i duno but i do it at times but not too much
I'd like to see someone pop their head.
Popping joints seems to happen more after I get injured.
If I bend me left middle finger and index finger, I can get them to pop. They just kep popping and popping and popping for a long time. I can do this with my ankles.
Most people push on the tops of there fingers to pop them, what I do is I do that (usually no work) then I grab my fingers and pull until they pop, or hurt. Then I press on my joint that is closest to the end of my finger so it pops the middle finger joint. Also if I don't move my toe for a while, and I bend it; its really loud.
I also pop my back. I sit in a chair with a low back and someway of anchoring it (like school desks where the desk and the chair are one) then I lean back and my back will pop starting about 1/5 down, to about 3/5. so its like 10 pops really fast.
Only damage popping knuckles are, is the annoyance of others. All you are doing is forcing your joints apart (unless its natural popping). It may ware down your joints, but it doesn't cause inflamation (arthritis; if you break it down it means "Joint Inflamation").
Also if I really try I can pop my neck. And sometimes if I move my head a certain way, I can hear a popping sound in my left ear when I walk (idk what it is, but its annoying)
I pop my knuckles from time to time; I can also pop my wrist and my toes. I haven't really felt any adverse affects stemming directly from such practices. My knuckles are quite large; I don't know if this is a side effect of my popping them or if it's something else entirely.
I feel popping-like-sensations iin my elbows when I do pushups...
Extremely annoying...

All of those describe me too.
With my two fingers I can only do with my left had, if I try with my right its just moving them. Also if I twist my wrist and hands they pop.
Well, they might not be bad for you, but popping or crackin ur neck is obviously bad. Of course when i take my shoes of after a long day of....having shoes on, i'll just band my toes and create aan earthquake. ... ... ...yea....
And you cant pop your head, its not a joint.
There are however joints in your skull...

Good thing I never crack/pop my knuckes. Fluids? Now that is

. Even if I try, hardly any sound comes out.
