'Cause I'm bored (as usual):

Chasms from Rush. I originally thought the cliff terrain's effect of blocking vision would destroy the "pit" effect I intended, but the blackness actually adds to it. I'm still trying to improve the effect, though.

Hell!

Some swamps I made.

A random scene from a cancelled map I made awhile ago. Nothing special.

My name written in khaydarin crystals. Makes a weird effect with the shading.

A zoomed pic of a BC I made with terrain for another
cancelled map, as seen on the minimap. Beats yoshi's easily.

lol nice terrain...
Int he first one the top part of the cliff that unit is standing on reminds me of a cliff going upward for some reason.
To tell you the truth
If your using that scene from rush as a finished product, I could help you out a little, the upper side is slightly blocky. I had perfected that in
this picture. Look all the way to the right side, as it wasn't my focus on the project, it's slightly cut. But there isn't really any blockyness.
I really like the third one, I know that it would be pretty easy to do, but it looks really cool.
Well I haven't added any noise to the terrain, and frankly there's not many cliff tiles I can use to eliminate the minor blockiness. It's all trenches done with dirt, so I had to do some pushing it to get the upper edges (like using the tiny bit of cliff from the dirt to water going up). But you won't really notice it when you see the area in full. When I make terrain, I make it more to be functional in a real map, and not so much asthetic.
That's why I ask you guys for asthetic ideas.

I like it, as you said the funcinality and the appeal, but there is repetetivness, it looks like the top of the cliff, when you finally change to dirt, it gets really repetitive, it's all the same 2 pieces, i noticed it on the cliff too. same 2 pieces.
Great terrain, I wish I could do that good when I am bored

, anyhow the name effect is cool... I wonder if you could spell my name in those crystals

.
I agree, your battleship beats Yoshi's :-)
For the chasm shadow thing, make sure that they have seen most of the edges at one point. That way they can see down a little ways, and it looks like it fades off the farther it goes down.
Well, my only criticism to any of them is towards the first: Although it isn't blocky, the tops of the cliffs aren't the correct tops. Secondly, in the small amount of the bottom that is visible, you can see a pretty clear mismatch. And lastly, as said before, it is repetitive. If you could send me a brush of that part, I could improve on it. If not, well, I might as well start a brush set to extend cliffs.
Jesus Tapdancing Christ, don't u know that your the best mapmaker ever?.... Yet you still need to showoff...

There are a few ways to blend cliff top to low dirt:
1. Put some bridge thingies where it shades to dirt (Jungle)
2. Put Costal Cliff tops (what he did there, what I use, looks best.)
3. Or make it look blocky.
No! That's not what I meant! Almost all of the land cliffs have a coastal cliff that matches them, IE, the same image with editing. I was refering to him mismatching the costal cliff tops with a regular cliff middle that does not match. Jesus, how could you think I don't know that?! Anyways, here's a picture to show what I mean about matching coastal/land cliffs.
Oh I think I see what you mean.
Like how around the edges what he used doesn't blend with the tiles below? Look closely and you can see he used a brush

Ok, I'm completely finished adding noise and deblocking the chasm area. I've scoured the entire tileset, and this is as good as it'll get.

That's a matter of shadows.
Tux any chance that you can post the map or a screenshot of that piece of terrain in SCMDraft or Starforce, I'd really like to know how it's actually done to get that nice shadow effect.
Anyways, Hall of Famer

i like it, the bottomless pit type thing is really nice, but the top part in that image is pretty blocky and can somewhat easily be fixed...
Cliff tiles = Fog of war. Makes a nice shadow effect by itself, though the vision blocking kinda makes seeing ahead a pain.
[attachmentid=9053]
i outlined the blocky area that can be fixed...
try to fix it...
I've scoured the tileset for dirt to cliff tiles going up that look like they make a border, and that's the closest I can get it. There's just not enough tile types to pull it off without traces of blockiness.
I'd be glad to be wrong, though.
It is possible to fix that up a little though.
Well I could break the isometric pattern and repeat the half edge upward cliff tiles to seem together, and thus eliminate that obvious blockiness. But the chasm area is pretty big, and I've lost patience with individual tile tweaking. Trust me, the blockiness isn't as obvious in game.

i just noticed that the top part is supposed to be another pit thing, i thought it was supposed to be a regular cliff, and i didnt get why it was so blocky, but it still can be fixed up a little like dk said, but it is nice, especially the bottom part...

Here's a screenshot from Starforge for the chasms. They look better in game, because you don't see the tiling repetitions and the fog of war from the cliff tiles gives the effect of darkness to the pits.
thats pretty nice once u see the whole thing...
Honey, i wet the bed. Love it
