Staredit Network -> UMS Production -> Final Project After Rush...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-05-13 at 10:45:52
Here's the breakdown:
  • The Club 2
I know the official opinion about the original The Club wasn't too hot, as it was mainly just a druggy's map anyway. The Club 2 however, is meant to be different. Dancing now has a point to it, complete with DDR-style system AND visable dance moves (like before), new music (a bit more tasteful this time), a fully-fleshed out club complete with a kareoke/improv stage, the dance floor, bathrooms, private rooms wink.gif, and the managerial backroom, where you go to get your job (another gameplay aspect). I even planned to have a limited story involved, with events that unfold by a timeline, and chances for players to change outcomes of seize opportunities from them.

In a nutshell: The person who ends up owning the club by timer's end, wins.
  • Tux's Mega Party
You can't go wrong with party maps! Take me, your resident ultra-whacko concept map maker, and stick some 20 or so equally whacked minigame ideas into one map, and you have probably the most original and exotic maps ever to see the light of bnet. Mini-games would include such titles as: Bomba Osama, Kakarus Must Die!, Katamari Damacy, Momma Medic, Ghost Busters (with real Ghosts), Bus Drivers, Robot Builders, and even a Russian Roulette variation for good measure.
  • Alchemists
Don't need to explain it here. See this thread for details...
  • Kill Me Again!
By popular demand, I even made up a decent outline for a sequel to that damnable movie map of mine lol. It now takes interactive up a notch by adding branching decision points, passive interactive elements, and of course, more of the usual cheasy whacko humor from the original.
  • Tetrix
A concept map I devised a long time ago that I just haven't been able to throw in my "Junkyard" pile with a sound mind. Why? Well it IS basically just tetris in starcraft, but the twist comes in the form of multiplayer AND powerups that players get to improve themselves or hinder their opponents throughout the game. Those who've played a game called tetrinet know something of what I'm talking about. wink.gif
  • UMS Map Maker's Triathalon
Something I thought up just recently, and may do anyway whether the votes go for it or not (if I can get some help). Basically, it's a scheduled event (with prizes) that puts to the test people's map making, knowledge, and in-game skills to compete for the unofficial title of being an Uber map maker (no reliation to SEN's member label). I have some pretty good ideas for what to do with this, though by all means not a complete list. I think this would be a fun community event, if everyone were to get together participate.
  • Complete Guide to UMS Map Making
I made another thread for this one as well, which is something I hope could help bring new interest into Starcraft UMS map making by hand holding newbies through the start to finish process of making each portion of the various common UMS map types. I can see it being useful, but I worry SC might be too far past its prime for this to be worthwhile...
  • Terrain Brush Sets
If you remember this, then you know what I'm talking about. Only this time I will make a COMPLETE set of brushes, including all the terrain noise, corner pieces, etc. that I skimmed over with my prior set. I'm disappointed the old one wasn't as useful to people as I thought it would be, but who knows: Maybe a fuller set would be?
  • W.E.R.T
Nutshell: Like my old fire fighters, but stepped up in quality and scope, and now expanded to the full gamut of emergency response tasks, and not just fire fighting. Forget my old thread, the idea I had is much more refined, and for those who like Fire Fighters, this is one I think you'll love, now free of the repetative tasks and frustrations from the its predecesor.
Now choose. But choose wisely!

Alright I have chosen Kill Me Again, because I thought Kill Me! was a very nice map and it would be cool to see part2 because there have been many more tricks and special effects stuff thought of now that you could plant into the new Kill Me map. I really was debating against myself on Tux's Mega Party and Kill Me Again. Because your Mega Party map would be a pretty cool map to play, and I would be more than happy to play it. biggrin.gif Just my suggestion on what your last project should be. smile.gif

I think you should finish all of them.

Definately the Mini-Games map. I want to see Katamari Damacy done into a StarCraft map! I was gonna attempt it, but I just gave up before I even started. I'll love you forever if you get that one game finished at least.

I would like to see that damned A&O map which was hyped up so much -.-
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dr.Shotgun on 2005-05-13 at 15:50:23
Don't you ever listen to Tux? He's not doing A&O for Starcraft unless an automodder comes out.
and tux, i would like to see 1. good terrain for Installation and 2. You to finish all of these maps and NEVER quit sc

I'd like to see any of those maps completed, actual maps. They sound pretty cool, especially The Club 2 and Kill Me Again!...Agh, I want to Kill Me Again! Sounds so good, especially with all the interactiveness...^_^

E.R.T.!!! E.R.T.!!! fire fighters was by far the greatest game ever made in SC, but it lacked replayability, because you just wanted to show everyone you could make that. Emergency response task would include everything from policemen, riots, cats in trees, emergency, being a doctor maybe, it's already giving me millions of ideas, something that if you don't create, I WILL. Also, i vote for alchemists, cause you can't just ditch us in that tongue.gif.

I liked "Kill Me" so do "Kill Me again".

Personally I think that you should host the triathalon. Because it isn't all that hard simply to host something, (for me anyway) but the main thing I would want to see would be either alchemists or W.E.R.T. because they both sound pretty awesome.
Good Luck with what you choose. biggrin.gif

I just want to see Rush! finished before you go ahead on planning some more.

I recall quite a long time ago you had preparations for A&O ready, with a demo and everything. And then you had little 'side projects' while working on that, and now look at the result of that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ultimo on 2005-05-14 at 01:01:26
What about Oregon Trail? wink.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-05-14 at 01:14:13
I do side projects all the time. I can't just devote my existence to one thing, and frankly I don't want to. Only occasionally do I let side projects get carried away, but as you can see from the list in the poll above, I never followed through to letting any of those ideas (which are all perfectly valid and doable ideas) stop me from my main focus. Hence why they're not complete.

I don't plan to use this poll as a "set in stone" kind of thing to decide which project I'll do next after Rush (if any), but at least it'll give me something to go by. I may not have any energy left to do much else for Starcraft after Rush, but that remains to be seen.

A&O had a very specific reason for being cancelled. In a nutshell, you can't distinguish P12 dark swarms or place trigger-detectable units at player-dictated points, thus hobbling the prospect of any complex gunner or spell casting systems (which formed the core of the gameplay).

QUOTE
What about Oregon Trail?

Cancelled. I did a lot of work on it, but frankly it's too shallow a concept for the work it takes to make it (SC triggers just arn't meant to be used for programming). I could finish it if I want, but I'd have to do a messy process of debugging and testing, which happen to be my least favorite parts of doing projects. Plus I'm on a trend lately to produce original stuff instead of "porting" ideas.

ALCHEMISTS!

Edit-I'm curious too. What makes this one the final project?
you're quitting SC cry.gif?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-05-14 at 01:42:38
Yeah. I been planning to for a long time, but seriously I got to upgrade. SC is just too limiting to me nowdays.

Keep us posted about what's going on if you can, like what you goto after SC, maybe game designing or graphic arts. i dunno.

Everyone is quiting SC these days.
Please don't let SC die cry.gif

But he does have a point. The gunner system 2.0 was the limit, and TT hit it.
I think he's moving on to C++. (Doodle77: But that means AutoMod!!!!!!!!)

I'd like to see Kill Me Again, but it'd would have to be a LONG movie.
It will need lots of content to keep it extremely replayable. Since it'll be your last project after all.
