Don't use anything 3d. It's ugly. My best advice: stick with a smaller range of colors, try for the background to all look the same. The banner at the top is too different from the rest of the page.

He's got a good point there. I suggest making the the top bars less thick. And the grey squares, that are outlined in black that are under the bars, can be done in html..
