What do you think about Stem Cell Research? Should it be abolished, or contiuned?

EDIT: Sorry, didn't know it was spelled with "E"

I like the typo in the topic title. That seems to happen so much here that I've come to expect it.

I am fully behind stem-cell research, although I have a few concerns about embryos being harvested for stem cells.

Still, the embryos they use are ones which will just be thrown in the bin otherwise (they are IVF 'reject' embryos). We might as well put these potential lives to use saving other lives, rather than throwing them away.

I agree, stem cells can be quite useful, since they can duplicate other cells around them, like you said, rather use them then throw away.

There was already a topic on this

http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=5582&st=0

And I do agree to stem cell reserach. It has a big potential to heal many things.

I don't get all that crap about why they shouldn't use stem cells. I mean they are already going to throw them away, it makes no real difference if you just use them for a good purpose.

They disagree with them because the largest supplier of stem cells is the human fetus. And in order to get human fetuses, they'd have to have aborted children. Great how well the separation of church and state is working for us, eh?

I agree with stem cell research. It can help to prolong life in many ways. And who knows, they may find a cure for cancer or AIDS with this research.

Stem Cell Research can prove very useful in the future... And good things will happen because of it... Cancer kills to many people, and if a cure was made, it would probably become with the help of Stem Cells.

Let's sit and wait for the religious right to turn up.

Well, at the moment America is very far behind in stem cell research. As a comparison we're like china in the space race. The real countries that are doing this are making loads of progress. America just sucks. What basis do we have behind banning stem cell research, christian religious affiliations. Tell me thats not god in government. ermm.gif Basically I'm going to college in Budapest where stem cell research is a major technology. It's amazing how many more medicinal drugs come out of there compared to the amounts created in America. Another thing, what little does get accomplished here, (with the genetically modified corn and all) can easily be critisized and taken away. The genetic plants that have vaccines are mixing with the regular, vaccine deficient plants, causing those to carry a vaccine for a harmfull bacteria, where is the problem with that? It's been proven that they don't harm the ecological species around them.
Bottom line: America isn't good at biotics. They don't get enough funding, and can be sued easily.

Probably only half-true the use of stem cells themselves would probably help cancer along. But if we researched stem cells we could know more about what cancer cells actually do, they are very similar, yet stem cells stop after a period of time.

Stem cells should be continued, you can use them to repair spinal cord injuries. They've already made progress on mice biggrin.gif

Quite true... America does hold a lot people who don't know what they are talking about, Stem Cell Research is a great thing to work at. Majoring in it would be great!

To hell with the "religious right." They're not even truly religious; they just use their "faith" to serve their own twisted ends.

I'm a supporter of stem cell research for all of the reasons stated earlier.

This should be renamed to "Stem Cell Research: The Anti-Religious Right Discussion" or something. I agree, the RR is quite annoying with how they mix organized religion with everything else in the world assume that their faith rules everyone. Great ideal, kinda reminds me of Nazism.

[FONT=Courier][COLOR=red] I agree with the stem cell research and the whole religious rights thing is just stupid...so

Hey Jake are you happy now? I'm on.

Normally uneducated people, ie Hicks, oppose something that is good for our society, including Stem Cells.

Good then...

Majority of the opposers of Stem Cells don't know this: How some people are suffering, and with Stem Cells, they could stop. The people who preach against it are probably healthy, with no illnesses.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-05-21 at 21:34:22
Really they don't know that? We should tell them then. I mean it seems like a good idea to me. How about you? wink.gif
