OK I had a dumb Idea for a half money map. You start off witht a regular map that oyu have made(not a money map) and then take all the mineral patches that you have arounf your start andstack all of them right next to your base like a money map.
But, all the min patches have the same number of resources so they WILL have to expand. There are not more mineral pathces but a very start beginning to the game. It gradually wears off though and you must expand like you do normally.
I know alot of people hate money maps and like normal ones so I just kind of mixed the two so both parties are happy.
Agreed, that IS a suck idea. All youre doing is bring a money map element into what is already a perfectly fine gameplay. If you want money fast, stick to your moneymaps, instead of suggesting things thatll bastardize the status quo.
What the is the point? TT
ADDITION:
To add to that, what does this bring in terms of gameplay?

Well, the boring (imho) first 2-3 minutes of the games go faster. I like the idea, as long as there are not 50+mineral blocks , but 8-10. Killing eco with some fancy drop will be more effective, which adds some nice new gameplay, and the game will be faster overall in early game. On the other hand, there is some big problem with balancing. If you ever played fastest map, it's toss>>>>all. They can pump zealots in mad numbers fast. If there is a choke, Terran will be able to tech to vults/firebats, so no big problem for terran, but zerg larva just does not pop at a speed which fits to the high mineral income from the beginning. It will take zerg some time until he has enogh hatches to pump at a level comparable to terran and toss, but toss will be able to secure an easy expo until then or might even be able to kill structures of the zerg with his army. I don't know how to balnce that out without changing unit attributes.
The point of it was not to have 10000 blocks of 50k minerals like normal maps, but to kick gameplay into fast mode in thebeginning so that people might have a good foundation. People will expand faster since they will have the money quicker and more of the map will be put into use.
This is as stupid as any real money map. People expand cuz they're not getting ressources fast enough for the needs they have.
Having 150 mineral patches "spread" like in a "real" map won't help since 15 SCVs will still be able to mine the "same" patch anyway -.-
Have you read rules and regulations? A money map wont be accepted.
That is a terrible idea anyway.
Are you talking about having the patch really close?
Plus, theres always the mass-worker-slaughter factor that you have to look at, even if this idea was good, which it isnt. One Irradiate, psi storm, etc and all those workers are gone at just the cost of energy
Yes, close. NOT 50k. Hmm Maybe it would be easier if i just uploaded a modified map to show you what I mean
There is no point... all it would do is make mining faster, which would hurt zergies.
Good topic title, it's true, so why bother posting this "crap"?
Man are you intolerant. You don't even understand his idea and still flame him. There are some serious balancing issues concerning zerg, but other than that the idea is interesting and should be discussed without that "no mucho money maps" ideology.
Well... he flamed himself before anyone else flamed him... so hah

It is good and right to be intolerant of bad ideas. Plus, the guy EVEN SAID HIMSELF that it wouldn't work. No one here has been rude to him.
with placing the other minerals the way you need like 3 mainbuildings for optimal income we could bring zerg back maybe? I don't want to throw away the idea that fast, I really dislike the boring first minutes of broodwar matches.

I want to throw away the idea ASAP.
If you dislike the boring first few minutes of broodwar matches, mabye you should go to WC3, where the first few minutes are vital.
Zerg would expand so much earlier..

You realize that it would f*ck up every build order ever made, right...? Guess not. The game would be radically changed.

Not to mention that one bat could ruin your economy.

Yeah, radical changes are good, broodwar is a strategy game, not learning build orders until you can tell at how much supply to build the 3 rax while sleeping:) (really) new maps=new strategies=more diversity.
yeah he could. That's a feature, not a bug. Every race has units that make splash dmg(storm, reaver, firebats, tanks, lurkers), so that is not really imbalanced. The thing I dislike with money maps are the fact that it is infinite money and the design is so crappy, not the fast minerals.
yes, but fast money gives huge disadvantages to zerg, especially in long games because protoss/terran can get 4-5 starports/stargates and zerg just has to keep getting hatcheries to keep up with terran and protoss
Well I think in Lategame zerg does ok actually. I played in a german "mucho money" league with 10 minutes no rush a few years ago(vanilla sc). So you build for 10 minutes, (almost [depending on map an skill]) rech the unit limit in these 10 minutes and attack with everything while building new. 80% of the players played zerg there, as it was almost 100% macro. Zerg did not have to worry about getting rushed, of course.
I will make a map of this type, and we'll see how well it can work balance wise;-)
Here's what you need to do:
1. Stop playing money maps.
2. Start playing normal good maps, like
LT,
Silent Vortex,
Symmetrty of Psy, etc.
3. Start listening to what people like ihateTT have to say. This may be a good idea in your head but in no way does it help the game except by making it easier to kill peons and giving you cash faster. The game would quickly turn into a fight between who can kill each others peons the best.
Everyone else stop flaming and leave it alone.
The point of it was to recieve cash faster.
Terran gets firebats way before toss or zerg gets their splash units.
About radical changes:
I love using new ideas in maps, but that doesn't mean that all new ideas work.
Since broodwar has been balanced and balanced based on 8-9 mineral patch mains, having very close stacked patches would throw it off entirely. It means faster mining with fewer peons.
Plus, it allows for fagged out things like floating an ebay over the patch so your opponent needs to wait for anti-air units to put more peons on it.
Innovation is good, but not necessarily.
