Staredit Network -> StarForge -> Adding Units to starcraft
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Captain.Geo on 2005-05-23 at 13:05:15
is there anyway using starforge to import a different unit file to another unit file. For example, import the information for a terran marine to the goliath slot therefore having 3 different marines. terran marine 1, goliath slot terran marine, and jim raynor? There must be someway to open the starforge editor and change the unit slots hex editing or otherwise.
Please post on this

Not without a mod, and Starforge is not a modding program.

Every unit has a specific ID value. 0 is the Terran Marine. Changing that ID value will turn it into a completely different unit. There is only one terran marine. If you want duplicates, you make a modification. If you want to place those same marines, you place the ID value of the other marine. If you don't understand what this means, then it's time to get a brain.

I understand it perfectly, Death, but how does that help him.

Heim owned the topic: No.

Yes, but if that user is running the same patched .mpq that you are then no.

Go play a good mod, like Open Rebillion TC, and be amazed. I'll call 911 for you if you like.

You can not add units, you can only modify the current units. Modifying ANYTHING will not "crash" a bnet user. It will drop, or even crash, YOU, not anybody else. If that wasn't enough, I'll restate it: YOU drop, NOBODY else does.

And Battlekruser, I thought my post would help him, because he thinks what units look like are based on the map and not Starcraft, and that you can "use a hex editor on a map to make the goliath look different lolOLOL!!"... Which we all know is clearly impossible. Then again I find Captain.Geo to be a piece of crap because of his lack of standard knowledge.

Deathknight, try to keep it civil. I know the topic title isn't exactly friendly, but it's not directly attacking anyone personally. Also, this site is here to increase everyone's knowledge. When you've been around for as long as we have, what is standard knowledge to us isn't standard for everyone else. This topic didn't need to go any further than my first reply.

Captain.Geo, I'm going to edit the topic title because it might incite more unfriendliness against you. Don't post things like that in the title when you're asking people for help.

Captain.Geo I have found that an editor with just unit settings with their id numbers can be changed using a lot of numbers. A unit creator editor...messing with that can create 3 marines and all you just have to be real good with it.

And that would be a modding program...I thought we established that this is only possible with a mod.

talking about modding
Well with the marine thing it won't crash it will just drop him from the game to u and the same to him
it won't drop if you just changed the weapons or name or the marine it will still be a marine with infantry armor and gauss rifle for him and to u it will be the mod you ran

talking about mapping
(i think)
no you can't have diferent units as the ones predominated in the units list file that comes with brood or sc (normal)
you cannot change the graphics of a marine like in modding if that's what u mean to make a diferent unit or to import one i believe starforge doesn't have that power

feel free to correct me
