Staredit Network -> Modding Assistance -> Buildings Grid Size
Report, edit, etc...Posted by AqoTrooper on 2005-05-29 at 15:24:19
All buildings have two types of sizes, their square size (seen in Xtra-Classic) and their grid size (4*3 for Command Center... 3*2 for a Supply Depot, you know).

So, how to change buildings's grid size?

Unit Resizer is what you're looking. There is one in Arsenal III, but it doesn't work.

You can get it here: http://www.campaigncreations.org/starcraft/dls/Unit_size.zip

I don't particularly like it, but it works good when you want to resize units. Resizing buildings doesn't work for me however.

I was interested to see why you can't resize buildings, and so I took a gander at the units.dat differences between SCXE special mode and the regular units.dat, using both Arsenal Zero and Arsenal III.

The obvious and easy-to-understand changes are:
1. Buildings now have their "Flyer" box ticked.
2. Dimensions in Arsenal Zero and Arsenal III were changed to 1,1,1,1

What else has changed, possibly for unrelated reasons:
1. All of the StarEdit Availability flags have been checked, including All Races, Part of Terrain, and every unknown box. The same has been done to all units as well for some reason.
2. For buildings, all of the movement flags have been unticked. It's like saying a building can no longer move on ground, air, creep or hover. Interesting.

The biggest and most important change I think is that all buildings had their upgrade class changed from whatever unknown one they had to one of the "men" unit's upgrades. I haven't tested it (I might do later on though) but my hypothesis is that by switching a building's upgrade class to one of the "men" units, their placement in StarEdit is done as if they're units, that is, they're not tested against the grid.

As for your question about how to change a unit's grid size, it looks to me as it's hard coded, I can't find any systematic change in the units.dat entries to indicate which field is controlling that. So , I might not be much help to your question about how to change a building's grid size, but it enlightened me about how unit sizing is done in StarEdit.

I'm glad that my not knowing helped someone.
P.S. I'm quite sure that the reason that all of the flags were ticked is to allow terran labeled players have protoss unit, zerg labeled have terran units, etc.

Yeah that would make a lot of sense, of course lol. Although I did wonder why they had to tick "Brood War Only." I guess the box doesn't function as advertised.

I'm not exactly sure, but the Brood War Only is for the Staredit to check the unit and determine if the map is saved as a SCM or SCX.
