Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-03-19 at 17:56:29
Wow, forgot to release this from awhile ago. I was going to post it with the opening of a certain site, but that is delayed. Perhaps permanently delayed. tongue.gif
Anyway, TerraTek Battlezone is version 1.2 and open for the public.

Basically, its a battling kinda map.
4 Human players, although 2 will be fine. And 3, assuming you don't use the Team Modes.
In the game, you are a Dragoon. Mines spawn by you every few seconds. You are constantly being followed by a burrowed Lurker of your own.

You are constantly gaining Gas, and have 9 Spells that cost Gas, buildable at the Hatchery...
- Heal, 1100 Gas
- Hire Assassin, Creates DT, 550 Gas
- Mine Detector, Temporary Overlord over your Dragoon, 350 Gas
- Mortar, Temporary Tank for 1 Shot, 450 Gas
- Locator, Minimap Pings all Goons and the Hot Spot, 200 Gas
- Teleport, Warps you to one of 8 Set Points, 360 Gas
- Psycho Armor, Perma-sets shields to 100% for about 12 seconds, 650 Gas
- Fortify, Lays 18 Mines, 550 Gas
- Mineswipoer, Which steals all mines on the screen cenetered on your Goon, 900 Gas

Now, we battle with that stuff.
There are 6 modes in game...
- FFA, your standard Free For All. You choose the number of lives.
- Team Battle, P1+P2 vs P3+P4. You choose the number of lives. (again )
- Survival, Least amount of Deaths in 12 minutes wins.
- Team Survival, least deaths in 12 minutes wins.
- 2x Gas FFA, same as Free For All, but you get twice as much Gas.
- Hot Spot, player who spends the most time under a mobile "hot spot" wins. You get 0% Shields and no Gas while under the Hot Spot.

So uh.... 15 downloads? I get all this support and all you guys tell me how great it is but it seems nobody's playing it. It's rated 3.25 on TnS for crying out loud. -_-

I think it got that score because it can make some improvements! Like, time management! It suscks that I can just sit there and wait, causing a death trap, and then find out that he is never going to come! That needs work, like something to keep people moving! Also, I think we should be able to get more than 1100 minerals! That way we can save up and have more options for certain situations! Last, their could be buyable upgrades, I think!

Overall, it is still a great map!

How about making it so that if you stand over your own mine for a few seconds it's given to a computer and attacks you instead? That way you have to keep moving.

If you sit and wait, you should be getting raped. I would just charge all your mines with a Psycho Armor and the resulting splash would totally wreck you. If they're just going to sit, take map control and it'll be easy from there. Or just use a Mineswiper and steal all those mines. Mines aren't really too powerful.

There's some map included in the sc directory that was like: "Every unit on the low ground die every 8 minutes..." Or something...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-03-30 at 17:57:49
That's in the scenario directory. It's called (4)Old Faithful.scm - that effect is done by unchecking the boxes for low grounds.

Those "use map settings" maps generally don't work w/ AI, do they?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by flaming_X on 2004-03-30 at 19:37:43
When I sit in one spot, I kind of make a nice barrier first! I mean, who would be that dumb! By a barrier I mean a VERY VERY thick one that not even a fully healthy dragoon could get through! And if you mine sweep, I'll just mine sweep back! Now I can sit in one spot and not do anything! NEXT!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-04-06 at 17:29:27
You could Minesweep back, but all of your Mines would've exploded right on you already. Or I would just Tank you out from a distance. There is great strategy if you apply yourself. If you'd like to stand still as I rape you, I'd be happy to go 1 on 1 with you in this. tongue.gif

On the other hand, version 1.02 is out. This fixed victory bugs with the timed modes. Also, Fortify lays 3 additional Mines. I thought it was a bit lacking.

Finally, MORE MINES!!! But, You watch me play and you will lose, only because I am da best! It is just that EZ, I monopolize a side, forcing the other 3 onto one side where they battle to the death until only one is left, then I strike with fury at the last one!

When it is one on one, no one fights, so I just make a little...trap! Even if you mine sweep, I will have about 100000 more to save me, besides! I WONT ALLOW MYSELF TO LOSE! Unless necesary!

Last, did you add in or allow more money to be gained (like 2500, so we can heal almost twice) or like a gain for dieing? something like that to assure we don't die twice...in a row....one right after the other....not a second in between....
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-04-06 at 21:05:17
You're temporary semi-invincible to mines after you respawn. You get a little boost similar to the effect of Psycho Armor. The effect is very short lasting, so you probably don't notice it anyway.
I'm keeping Gas where is just for that reason, so you CAN'T heal twice. Once is enough, then a recharge. Simply almost dying about 3 times (because it'll regen by the time you're through with the first two) would just be gay. Or firing off 6 Tank shots at once for an insta-kill would be even gayer.
Mines aren't that effective to prevent the one side thing. If you "monopolize" a side, it should be pretty easy to get through. If the 3 battling leaves you left out, then its time to move a team mode. tongue.gif

lol, the team mode I don't like to play! It is because I can kill everyone that I will! Also, if I "Monopolis" a side, I have a greater chance of victory. More Area= More space to hide in = less dieing

You focused on something that most map makers forget... strategy wink.gif

A quick note that I've updated this map to fix the random dropping and (hopefully) the victory/defeat bugs. The new version is the DLDB (StarEdit Network Featured Maps or the link in my sig). smile.gif

So this is now a much better version with just bug fixes or anything of interest?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-08-10 at 16:53:52
Bug fixes mainly. We had the earlier versions, which were good but buggy. Then a good version with less bugs, but droppy. Then this, the superior version to the others. tongue.gif
