It's okay, it's a bit blocky in the walkable metal area.

The first 2 pictures...

Too many sprites, and still nice. (Even tho both terrains are easy to make)

well at the third picture, there are those large rocks things in the water, there's shadow coming of them. Is it possible to fix that?

I like the idea you were going for and I bet it could be accomplished and look really nice. But you've got to make sure everything is really neat and natural looking.

Wow, good job. They look nice. They are sorta blocky, and already done, but gj.

They are pretty good just try to blend the floor more. It is very blocking right now. I don't think those twilight doodads fit in your terrain. It is too bleu and white for it.

Avoid putting rock formations and other things on water. The problem is that it always looks like the sprite is sitting ON TOP of the water instead of IN it. For things like trees, it's okay; however, stone formations and units just don't look right.

Well im working on something else now... but it kinda crashes when I start it.. I cant seem to figure out what the problem is.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by KaboomHahahein on 2005-06-05 at 14:15:11
It is probably the sprite that is crashing your map. Some of them do. And a hint is to not place those, in starforge under the "Crashes SC" sprites.

In your second set of pictures, try using the natural bridge tiles. They fit perfectly if placed correctly, and the tiles you used were just the same one over and over, which makes it look blocky (Talking about the Jungle ones).

I've used nothing else but Doodad sprites. Could it be the size? I made the map like 50x50.

Another thing im working on now:

Its still blocky, and I need any suggestions for filling up the empty space.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kingra on 2005-06-05 at 16:54:11
It looks less blocky, but it's still a bit blocky.
Try removing sprites you don't think are neccessary, place the ones that you think are needed most, like to cover up blocky spots, for example.
There's not much you can do with all that "extra space", but you can make he place look much better by adding more terrain in the right spots.

Oh and if it's not the regular sizes (64x64, 96x96, etc.) then it will crash unless you have played a game before that.

Well, I think your first post was really good. Nobody seems to do ice terrain anymore.
As for the other work with bridges, the people have spoken, they are sorta blocky and have been done before.

pretty good for a first try, but the blending on the walkable part of the bridge can be better...

On the third picture it seems that you used a doodad that has a crack through the center of it. I'm talking about the squareish thing on the right side with a crack from the top downward. How was that done?

Its a bad picture from smoke, smoke from a gas sprout sprite, from desert..

Well, the first two you showed us were quite blocky and very bland. Not much to them at all. It would be a nice place for say..A wharf or something? The 3rd bridge walkway thing...Too common, a lot of people do that kind of thing. But you are on the right track.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TDT-DaRkFiRe on 2005-06-08 at 16:11:06
well thx, first I need some practice, so mimicin' is the best thing? Anyway I made one of those waterfalls today.. but when im getting faster and better at making non-blocky stuff, I will start thinking up my own wink.gif .

Whoa, thats pretty nice, I love your terrain, I tried making some 1337 terrain at one point but it's too hard and complicated and takes too long to do tongue.gif

The first one is not too good but the second is better so you must be improving.,....

I just think these are so cool, cause it's like a whole new aspect of map-making that I've never even considered. w00t.gif
