Our friendly affiliates at Stormcoast Fortress has released Spacedit.
Its a program that is supposed to change space in the space tileset. You may download it, although I found myself utterly confused on how it works. If you know how, please share the information and submit your own tutorial to our tutorials database. My thanks

just extract the .spk file from the mpq, load it and edit it =p

Yes you extract the .spk file,you modify it and then patch sc with an .mpq file containing that .spk. I have been playing around with the tool I found it pretty promising. Yet,it's only v 1.00 and needs lot of work.
One thing: Don't try to make big stars,they show ugly in sc.

Not a mapping tool. It modifies the stars background of the Space tileset

Just testing,it REALLY sucks.
Just run the .exe;you can use the .scm to watch the stars...you'd better use "black sheep wall" cheat. Too lazy to place map revealers.
