Vote for what you think is the best type of terrain and feel free to explain why here.
This is here because it will help me decide what type i want to map, which is why it's in this section.
Realistic definately, these types of maps give a certain atmosphere to the setting and therefore makes maps more enjoyable.
Never do a maze-like map. It sucks. Unless you just want it for eyecandy. PsychoTemplar did that once.
Symmetrical is cool, unless you make everything straigh-edged, and squarish. This is best done on Space Tileset.
Realistic is the best looking (if you do it correctly), like gaia for example, a perfect pro map, realistic and i think it is one of the best looking.
A realistic map, but it has to have strategy considered while being made. Realistic, natural look maps usually include lots of good doodads and a good variety of terrain, so not only is it better-looking, it's more functional
a 'realistic' map is not balanced. Gaia is still quite symmetrical in a way. I prefer symmetrical maps, they are easier to play and almost balanced by default position wise.
We dont have the same definition, if you call gaia symmetrical, then i like symmetrical maps.
I guess your definition of realistic is random placed terrain and doodads, am i correct?
My definition of realistic is still balanced, and equally placed terrain around the map, but looks natural still.
I believe a map can be natural looking and (almost) symmetrical at the same time. Cryptic island i.e.
Natural, but close to symmetrical.
I think gaia looks more natural than cryptic islands.
We definately have different definitions.

symmetricallity
Is that a word? Why not just say "yet retains some symmetry".
that map sucks so bad, two of the players have 4th expos and the others don't

Where does that tie-in?
Maybe move those two expos to where the bridges are to even the distance out?

Does that even matter?

I dislike that map as well, but I dont think thats why he posted it.
Naturilistic, for obvious reasons.

That is something that is very rare. It would require lots of work to perform a task such as that. Very complex by far, would take several times longer to make.
You must also be very patient to want to do a project such as that.
i would say symmertrically because...
1) same base area
2) looks cool
and it especially looks cool on twilight terrain. that's my opinion~
