Hey, does anyone know why occasionally after using starforge on a map and then opening it with the X-tra editor that the X-tra editor now places only square terrain?
I'm guessing that this has something to do with placing areas with the clutter set to 0, as that seems to be the main time when this occurs. (Correction, it also occurs at higher than normal clutter rates)
it has always been this way. SCXE is not compatable to read the square tiles unless they are a distance apart or the square tiles are put ontop of the pre-made ISOM terrain.
Wait, what do you mean, I was asking what causes SCXE to place square tiles after a map had been edited with starforge, no square tiles were involved in this editing, so I was just kinda wondering why SCXE suddonly decided to place square tiles.
You either open a map that was unprotected and has sqaure terrain... if it were rectangular, you can have a feature edit in xtra to form squares.. except you don't get all of the terrain, like a cliff...
Square terrain is composed of a different code that SCXE can't distinguish. Since both Starforge and SCMDraft place terrain using different method than in SCXE, problems are bound to happen.
Starforge clearly places everything in 1x1 tiles. If you attempt to place normal terrain, it won't work because it'll just place the pre-set 1x1 tiles in a group. Therefore it won't place correctly.
SCMDraft si the same way an in Starforge except that it's normal terrain can distinguish what changes to make depending on the surroundings. Basicly it's the only editor that can correctly place both 1x1 tiles and normal terrain.
SCXE can only place normal terrain. If a square tile is put in, it won't blend in and break the pattern therefore the engine can't place the isometrical tile and just places even more square terrain.
Yeah, thats what I meant.
Square terrain does not become written into the ISOM section in the chk.
ISOM section:
QUOTE(CC.org)
This section is used to map the square tiles of the 'TILE' section to the isometric(diamond) shape on the
terrain in the map editor. This section affects what type of terrain can be placed where, and how, on the map. This
does not appear to have any function in Starcraft itself, only Staredit. But I haven't yet figured out the format of it.(Actually, I haven't tried)
In other words, the square tiles in the TILE section are not mapped into the ISOM section, therefore causing terrain to only be placed as square tiles. The borders are destroyed
Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me when I was using StarEdit. Now I'm using SCXE.
I have made entire maps square in StarForge, and it didn't make it square terrain.
It sometimes doesn't make it place squares, and other times it does.
What happens with me is it only places square terrain if the map was first created by starforge or scxe. To fix this problem, I create the map in SCXE and then use SF.
