Im making RPG map. In my map the player character gains XP (custom points) and levels. Every time the character gain a level the unit is removed and a new and better one is created. The problem is that there aren't too many ground units and I need enemy unit too. How to create new unit types? Please help. helpsmilie.gif

You need a mod to create new units. You'll have to make do with what's available.

a mod edits the units data. and adds new ones. Yes, they need the mopd in order to play that map. Simple case, Don't make him evolve every level unless he doesn't have that many evolves.

2. Enemy units= make only like 5 in an area level (levels 1-10=hydra,ghost rine,)
(level 11-20= ultralist reaver archon) as levle units.

3. what kind of map editor are you using? stick to something easier like extra editor if you're new to this.

Yes I use X-tra editor. And I use zerg as enemies. But anyway I don't understand what do you mean with "dont evolve him every time he gain a level". Is there a better way to make him stronger when he gains a level? If there is please tell me about it!

There are a lot of ways...
  • Give the player some resources to buy upgrades with
  • Increase the player's max HP

Give the player some resources to buy upgrades with - for this I need a building and it increases only damage (every level the same) and armor (every level +1)
but it doesn't increase HP and doesn't add special abilities. So this thumbdown.gif.

Increase the player's max HP - I don't realy understand what do you mean with this wallbash.gif . Please post some more details.

You can come up with other systems for special abilities.

To change max HP, you set the unit's HP at some high value (like what they would be at on their max level). Then whenever they heal, you set their HP to some percentage of that, based on their level. Like level 1 would be 10%, level 2 is 15%, etc.

If you want to make it so ever level they get a new character with more energy and more attack or whatever you should either make it really hard to level so u dont have to make like 30 levels and use up all ur units make it lets say a max of 5 levels and each level u change the unit a little...or u can make it where u get alot of levels lets say 50 levels but u only get a new unit every 10 levels...so either way you should still have enough units for all the level ups

now for the hp% - have u ever played TOS(test of survival) with the bunkers(different versions may include hives near your bunkers or sunkens on your bunkers) anyway thats what they use in that map...once you clear a certain part of the map and kill the unit that you werent supposed to kill it sets your hp to say 45% everytime you heal it will stay at 45%(in stead of the usual 25%)
what you could do is make them start off at an area with the heal so its automaticaly at the desired amount and then make a heal beacon but instead of makeing it heal all 100% of their energy make it an amount that would be ok for that part in the game so they dont die too ez or life forever...or instead of making them appear in the heal beacon when they pick their unit(or however they get their hero) u can just set the units hit points %(u can change this by selecting the unit(s), right clicking, then select properties...

If you dont want to use either of those you can set minerals/ore each level up and preserve trigger...
(for this ore is for attack ups and gas is for armor ups)
like lets say...
Level1 - set to 1 ore 1 gas
Level2 - set to 2 ore 2 gas
Level3 - set to 3 ore 3 gas
ect.
so each level u can upgrade 1 armor and 1 weapon (if you set it to that)
to set it so each upgrade the upgrade cost will go up 1, on upgrade settings u set mineral cost - base:1 factor:1 the factor is how much it will go up each time you upgrade...and there u go 3 different ways to use levels without using mods or anything to make new units...

What did you expect? Its not like We can add units to give you more of an option. This is the magic of Modding. I think you should get into it tongue.gif. Plus Good luck with that. You willl have to find another way around it.tongue.gif

You can also add in spells/skills/abilities for the characters and also options to upgrade the abilities to be more powerful/better effects or so. Such as a small explosion to a bigger explosion, that would be more interesting, but its a suggestion.
