Staredit Network -> Modding Assistance -> Changing Building Sizes
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2005-06-21 at 19:15:29
Alright, I want to know how to change most of the Protoss buildings to 2x2, but I can't find what I have to change to do that.
Help?

ADDITION:
Refresh.

Go to the graphics tab of the arsenall III unit editor and mess around with the unit dimentions.

As far as I know, that doesn't work. You can change the size of the unit, but the grid squares required to construct it are unchangeable to my knowledge. For example, you might make the starport take up the same amount of space as the marine through editing Variable 39 in units.dat; in game it will be like this--you can walk up real close to it as if it were the size of a marine. When constructing it, however, and (probably) when placeing in StarEdit, the Starport will still be 4x3, or whatever it is normally.

And, the above post's information is, of course, why I have this topic at all.
So... as far as anyone that seems like they're going to bother posting here knows, you can't?

Did you try the staredit tab? That is how you change the number of squares it takes up in staredit. I'm not sure about starcraft though.

Why would the StarEdit tab change it in game?

What do you mean?
The staredit tab on what? Arsenal III? (only program that I know of with a staredit tab). That just has the staredit grouping and editing.

The staredit tab does not change the unit size in game it only changes how much room it takes up and the circle size

That's what I feared... cry.gif
I guess it's hard coded. A pretty stupid thing to hardcode into the game if you ask me.

There has to be some way... Because certain units if you check "Building" they give you an opcode error. (in staredit)
An example:
I think if you try and select "Independant Command Center" in StarEdit it crashes, yet in a modded StarEdit I have seen (Platinum Aspect) it is a 1x1 command center. (PA is a 1.07 editor I believe)

I'm pretty sure there is no way to change building sizes, not even in Staredit.

That's because the unit is hardcoded to be a 1x1 if it's a building.

So what your saying if that extra editor does it by making all the buildings flying non building units...
Oh, I see now.

If you want 1x1 buildings, you can use independent jumpgate and such.

Or powerups. They have registered "building values".

are you asking that the sprites be scaled down to 1x1?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2005-06-27 at 11:16:23
No, he wants to change the building size, like when you try to place a defiler mound it takes up 4x2 squares regardless of what it looks like and regardless of the unit size you make it.

Well, that's conveniant. Powerups would be 1x1, right?

Actualy, what I was thinking of was making all non-factory Protoss Buildings look like, and have the size of, Pylons. I like squares.

The point of what I said is that some untis if you mark them as a building have no building size, so they give you an opcode error, yet I have seen some things that should not be buildings work.

Also, I believe that is why Intependant Command Center crashes Starcraft, it is marked default as a building, but it wont crash if you uncheck that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by StealthyDeath on 2005-06-28 at 20:10:32
The reason why it crashes is that it uses the Scout's iscript. The Scout's iscript isn't compatible as a building unless you edit the script or uncheck 'building'.

I was close enough, it was because its checked as a building.

Also, some buildings have scout stuff...
