This may seem like a stupid question; I don't know. I tend to not work with extra programs, just StarEdit. So my problem is, I wanted to use some sounds from the actual single-player campaign...not unit speech, which I already have, but from briefings and such. For an upcoming campaign (the Free World Campaign). Is there any way I can get these?
Well, unless you want to extract them from the MPQ andplace them into your map, you're going to have to use a third party program.
Ha, Mac wins this race again! Muhahahahaha! (Mac staredit is a little diferent, cant help you here.)
With mac, you just record...
In this case, a third party program is fine. What should I use?
Edit: Screw your Mac!

WinMPQ, and macs dont have it any easier than PC users. They have it harder. PC users can record to, but we have ways of using the sound while they're IN the MPQ's. I'm sure mac users can do that, with a lot more work.
What you should do is use SCMDraft 2 to add a string that goes to where it is in the MPQ or go to Starforge and do the same with their sound table.
OK, thanks. I actually do know how to use those programs, just normally don't, so I'll do that. Thank yeh again.
If you want to copy the actual sound into your map, open up install.exe on the broodwar or starcraft cd with winmpq and extract the sound that way. If you want to use free sounds, use scmd2 or SF. Note that if you use "free" sounds and you want to use a sound from the campaigns, you have to have the CD in your drive or you won't hear it.
I wanted the sound in my map. But all I get when I open install.exe is a listfile and some unknowns. What do I do with them?
You need the listfile for winmpq.
Thanks Heimdal! It works

Now I can get to work on that campaign!
Edit: Can you give me the listfile for just SC? Not BW?
Heard this has list file for the SC cd too...
Why would you need one just for SC? The only thing I could think of is that it takes longer for winMPQ to load, but...that's not really why, is it?

No, the problem is, I don't have BW, and it wasn't working, it didn't have the SC campaign sounds. It does now in the listfile, but...I still can't extract them.
