Okay party people...
Let me hear some thoughts out there about the world's current petroleum situation. Analysts are predicting that the price of an oil barrel will rise to $65 U.S. Dollars and they also predict that our economy can only handle a $70 U.S. per barrel before we see some drastic changes on our own soil ie. severe recession, maybe even border line depression. This isn't good. Now, let me give you a crash course on a barrel of petroleum.
http://www.maverickenergy.com/faq.htm#worldFor those of you that don't understand the situation, and why the price of the barrel is so extreme is because a bottle neck exists at the refinery level. There is no point in debating about the world's supply of oil; because there is plenty of it to carry us through, at least through our lifetime. But, the real problem is refining that oil once it is drilled from the ground. Basically, there isn't enough refineries to meet the world's demand, especially when countries like China and India are having economic growth rates anywhere from 5 - 9% in the last few years. It is predicted that we will hit this peak oil production in the very near future also known as Hubbert's Peak, and then: "The party is over!" People will be paying $20.00 U.S. Dollars just for a loaf of bread! No Joke!
http://www.hubbertpeak.com/Here are my thoughts: This obviously explains the war in Iraq. It explains why Bush has severely increased the U.S. oil reserves. And it explains why China is currently trying to outbid Chevron for Unocal. China has next to nothing for oil reserves. Here is some food for thought: Do we (Americans) let the Chinese buy Unocal? You also know the only reason this country (United States) is able to maintain itself at its current pace is because of the Chinese and various other Asian countries. Why? Because they buy nearly ALL the U.S. treasury securities. WHAT are those?? It is our DEBT of this country! I'm sure you have heard this country has been operating on a 'credit card' for the past half century. Go figure, the Asians buy our debt so we can buy their goods. What would happen if the Chinese cashed out all those U.S. Treasury securities??? Again, lights out! So, would it be a good idea to deny them the petroleum company Unocal, given the current circumstances??? Politicians claim if they get Unocal, it will threaten this country's national security...Interesting, i would like to hear everybody else's thoughts out there.
Oh, and BTW, Lil' off topic; once i release my next movie that is currently in production, (Titled "Your Darkest Fear) i am planning on approaching blizzard and asking them for permission to begin filming a starcraft trilogy movie. What do you people think, movie box office hit or flop? Love to hear from everybody out there!
SOT
I highly doubt that blizzard would give the rights to make a movie for starcraft.
LOL! You are officially the funniest person on SEN... Lemme go read the other threads you spammed the serious discussion forum with.
If you put a few years into the movie it would be great, as long as it aint some crappy peice of....
Notice how everyone's replying to the off topic part, rather than the part that you wanted them to.

I don't care if blizzard doesn't give me license agreements, i can still make a trilogy based on the 'concept' (per se) I just won't be able to use any of their characters, some of the weapons, or spacecraft vehicles used in the game. It's not that hard to use your imagination and tweak the already existing spacecraft and weapons and then slap my logo on it. Besides, that was a lil' off topic (like what the last post says.) The question wasn't whether or not i could get license agreements, but whether or not the movie would be a 'hit' or 'flop.'
Who cares about politics anymore...just entertain me!

You know, nobody's going to learn to conserve until it does run low. So long as the downside isn't permanent, I would say its good thing because people might learn something from it.
Honestly, we might actually leran to try to develop alternate energy sources. Maybe the oil companies will learn to stop charging such ridiculous profit margins for refined oil.
We won't learn shit, ultimately. Changing policies is one thing, but changing minds to not follow the same paths that induce the same sets of mistakes each generation is something else. As soon as we get old and crotchety, the next generation will come along and repeat the same damn sets of mistakes the last one did. Being mortal is to blame for that.
As for this topic, I think unfortunately you posted something well above people's knowledge level and life-experience level (it's a gaming forum, after all). I wish I've done more research of my own to be able to contribute something myself, but frankly, in the end all I am is one person in a population swelling uncontrollably into the 7 billion range, and short of some miracle invention or impossibly rare twist of fate putting world politics somehow in my control, I doubt anything I say or do will change the way things are going to pan out.
Like you said, theres enough oil for the rest of our lifetime, well, I am more then 100% sure that in 80 years there will most definetly be another source of power, actually, im saying 20 at most.
Good, cars are evil anyway

, maybe this will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
I just read the part about running out of oil, other then that, it couldn't really see any point other then "The sky is falling! We have to tell the SEN!"
Hydrogen fuel, here we come!
Really and truly, the world isn't listening and many of us already know. The average american has heard of this crisis well-over 4 times in the past 3 years. It has been all over talk-shows, comedy, media, and other forms of public entertainment. Why are people not doing anything? No one is thinking of a positive solution, everyone just wants Bush out of Iraq. But if Bush leaves Iraq, American economy will start to dwindle, slowly but surely, we will fall. Why has no one thought of a positive solution? Because it's not banging anyone on the head that this threat is HERE AND NOW! Much like the terrorism threat of 9/11, when it happened 5 times over central and eastern america, people were like "This is horrible, stop the terrorism!" but they didn't take any affirmitive action. Just complain and expect our Judicial system to take care of it. The truth is, that people with the same radial view see the same damn thing! If i see a sunset and you're a few feet from me, you see the same thing. Basically everyone, including us, is inactive towards this problem. No ONE sees a good solution to go into, because we as a whole see the same thing, and are trying to make a decision or solution without a plan or expression to solve. Hydrogen powered cars isn't going to solve our problem with relations with the asian countries, or the european ones for that matter. That will solve a problem for our social view-points, but not the country's problem. The best bet we have is to let Bush do what he does, and wait for his term to end, then once hes' completed his task, we can focus on our economy as civilians. It's all we can do until someone finds a positive solution, at least that's what i think.
Hydrogen fuel will not work at this point in time...Why???
Because it takes more energy to separate the oxygen and hydrogen molecules than the energy we get in return when re-joining the molecules. Basically, it makes absolutely no sense in using energy to make energy, that's being just lil' counterproductive.
On second thought, one of the only ways hydrogen fuel would prevail, would be to use nuclear power to separate the oxygen and hydrogen molecules and store them in fuel cells for later consumption. I don't think the government would approve autos with nuclear reactors as their fuel tank anytime soon...clean energy...but, that will never happen due to radiation and disposal of the spent nuclear rods.

solar power could be another solution (though its weak now using very little of the sun's energy) over time the panels will be able to hold the sun's energy better making more energy.
I believe they're thinking of using solar panels on the cars themselves to seperate the fuel and then when the waste product comes out as water to recycle the process. And no, it does not take that much solar energy to do the job. A simple solution for cloudy days and places without much sun would merely be batteries.
And if you haven't noticed already, the American economy is dwindling.
I think we, as a country, need to stop bitching at each other and focus on the goals that would help the world. At the momment, oil controls almost all of our country. It powers cars, boats, houses to name a few. We need to develop more ideas then just hydrogen. And humans as we are, are probably going to switch over to another fuel source that would eventually cause even more problems and so on. Cause and effect. Its sad that present day companies aren't ready for the radical changes that need to be done. Our government isn't ready to put a new source of energy problem at the top of the list yet.
As a country I think we need some major changes, not just a government.
The old will die, and the young will rise. That's a part of capitalism. And I see a time for a lot of rising on the horison.

Did I just hear that from YOU? Remind me again why you support Bush? Bush pretty much denies every word of what you just said. His legislature regarding smog laws and such ENCOURAGES the production of gas-guzzling SUVs. Instead of spending money to research alternate energy sources, he wastes money on the futile hope that the small trickle of oil that will be generated after 7 years of drilling in Alaska will solve our problems. If you seriously believe what you just said, you're with the wrong party, mate.
