How do you make beacons so you can choose characters and stuff like that?
I'm trying to make something where you choose what character you play with.

Place the beacons. Then put a location over each beacon. Make a trigger like this. (I'll assume your "chooser" is a civilian") The location over the first becon is 'choose 1' and the unit is a marine.

Trigger
Description:
Choosing unit
Players:
¤ current player
Conditions:
¤ Current Player brings at least 1 civilian to 'choose 1'
Actions:
¤ Remove "civilian" at 'choose ' create1 marine at 'cooose 1'

And there are many many ways to make a choosing trigger.

Also add preserve trigger if you want to allow more than 1 player to choose the character.

And to make it a little better, you could add a text message (Display Text Message) to say something like "You have chosen Hero's Name" along with some wav. I dunno why, but I always think its more interesting when people integrate displayed messages when choosing characters in RPGs. Makes it look more professional I suppose.

That won't work because each PLAYER can choose it once.

If you want only one player to choose the character, If character's name is "archer". Name a switch "Archer Chosen". You can only pick archer if the switch is cleared (Switches are cleared to begin with). WHen u choose, set it, so nobody can ever choose it again...

I meant in the event that a character dies and can be revived to choose a new character (like in those D&D maps). Then again I have no idea what jynoh is trying to achieve inm his map. But in he event that player can die and be revived, a "Preserve trigger" would be best.

You would not have to use switches, just simply do what Kaboom said in his post, that trigger is set up to only activate once and only once. biggrin.gif

But if u want like story-based maps where you absolutely cannot have 2 ppl named SSJ46469468 GOKU LEGENDARY MYSTIC OMFG GOKU!!! or something where it's actually a person's name... like a LOTR RPG... you should use it...

Yeah, but you said to use switches, and that would just be a waste of switches. biggrin.gif

You are right about the story-based thing, where if you would die then you could repick, you would just have to go with DevliN's idea there.

If u want to choose some other effect other then choosing hero, just specify what u want in the actions, for example taking away money from enemies, getting bonus money, etc.

Why the hell would u rechoose? Just respawn ur character, like when switch is set, respawn the guy who's switch it is...

Because maybe you would want a differnet unit to play with.

Im stll not clear about this: so do I need a computer to be the beacons and stuff like that?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by slayer766 on 2005-06-29 at 17:06:40
You can have any player you want to be the beacons, it doesn't matter about that, any player can be the owner of the beacon. If you don't want the beacon to be visible to you like in the darkness, just give it to the computer, or a player that has no shared vision with you. biggrin.gif
