what is this modification thing about?

This thread is for modmakers (people who make mods) and a mod is a file that modifies starcraft to change unit speed, build speed, health, attack, move animations, spell effects, etc

basicly if its possible your making SC the way you want it new graphics, races, unites ect ect

Modding is like changing any aspect of Starcraft previously regarded as impossible.
You can alter graphics, colours, sounds, menus, unit stats, game types, and much more. There are few limits on modding, but much less limits than mapping.

This modification thin is about.. Well, Modding. Modding is where a group or a single person start's a mod/modification.

The meaning of Modding is: 1 : the limiting of a statement : QUALIFICATION

4 : a limitation or qualification of the meaning of a word by another word, by an affix, or by internal change

So basically, Were changing the meaning of starcraft, And making a meaning of our own.

Modding is the action performed by the person or group.


Couple of problems:
You apparently looked up the definition for the wrong word- it should be "modification", not "modding" or "mod".

"Modification" is a change. In this context, modifications refer to the .dat, iscript, and other files in StarCraft.

In one article I read about modding games in general, it said that modding is really popular among people because it lets us normal end-users become the game designers. We don't have to play the game the way a big company like Blizzard decides we should play it, we can reshape it to work like we want.

I think that's a really nice way to explain it, and I suppose that in a way I do make mods because I want to play the game using my rules, but I also like to play mods just because they're different and cool, not really because I wish the rules to playing StarCraft were different.

mod making is kinda tough once you start but once you are good and understand all its use, you can make a tc (total conversion) without any problems. I suggest looking throughout this forum to see topics of stuff so they can help you understand and learn things.
