i completed a map and saved it on Basemode on xtra editor 2.6
it said "could not be saved for writing"
i closed my xtra editor.
i could not Reopen my Map or Save it or play it or nothing

im trying to attach the map to this post but
this is wat its saying (Error Window)

MapName.scx.Ink
File not Found
Please Verify the Name it was Given

the .Ink extension they tell me in the error
but when i view the file, i see no scx.Ink Extension on the map. only .sxc
uhh its very perplexing, can u guys help me possibly?

oh wait Hammer removed the .lnk with his awesome mac, and now i can see the map, but theres still an error

The file is currupted, because when i tried to open it(After .lnk was removed, because you couldnt open it before that!), it wouldnt let it open up.

You cant play it or open it.

Is there a way to fix the file?

I got the could not be saved for writing before , but it still saved mine even though it said that and for the other thing .ink thing i dont know

I always get that ''cant overwrite for saving'' after I use starforge the first time... Scared the shit outta me.. lol...

Anyway, yes, it also still saves with me.

Er ... .lnk is shortened for link. The file is a link (or referer) to the real file. It's like you see IE, Show Desktop, etc in the quick launch bar, those are .lnk files that run the real EXE's when you click them.

.lnk is most commonly referred to as a shortcut. Please tell me you weren't trying to open a shortcut as if it were the real thing?

Did you ever move it, the folder it's located in, the folder that that folder is located at (etc) or renamed the file?

Woah sounds like hard work to me

Anyways, cannot save for writing occurs when someone is playing your map. You may have let someone test it and they opened it or sonething, but that is why that occurs. My friend had this same problem. He just got an updated version of his map from soemone then continued. You should always save a map with two names just in case something like this happens. If nobody else has your map then I don't know what to tell you. Two hours isn't much so just restart it.

yeah, but if it was like 99.99% done and made a little tweak to it, and this happened, you'll be splattered at the bottom of a cliff in about 5 seconds...

lol. That had just about happened to me, even though me and my friend were only like 75% done with our RPG, then the file got corrupted.

Reason was going from X-tra to StarForge then back to X-tra.

Go into x-tra and try to open it from the recent maps listing.
