Staredit Network -> Modding Assistance -> No More Memgraft

Memgraft no longer works for starcraft! I don't know a lot about modding or anything. Do you think this will kill the modding community?

No, it won't, but it freakin' sucks...
I liked having Citadel of Adun being able to build Fenix and Zeratul... cry.gif

Wait a few weeks/months and we should *hopefully* get a new version.

C A L M D O W N.. To the best of my knowledge, MemGraft simply needs to be updated to the the current version of Starcraft. Patience, fellow discples of modding, patience.

DK said memgraft couldn't be updated.
And SI might not be willing to update memgraft because:
A. He doesn't feel like it.
B. He might fear setting the morph hack loose again. (I'm not saying that action would necisarily do that, I'm saying he would fear it would).

If it can be done, MemGraft will be updated. Else a lynch mob of a hundred strong will show up outside SI's house. Or, we could boycott SCMDraft and praise SF until SI updates it. The SME community will be leaning hard on him anyway.

But why do we need an updated memgraft if we can just downgrade our SC to the necessary version to play a mod? [/DK's opinion]

It's more convinient for people, while also having the most latest fixes and updates coming from the latest patch.

so does this apply for stargraft also? if not then who cares? tongue.gif

All they have to do is located the new memory addresses which Blizzard has changed. Since they have done it before, and already have all of the information needed, this task should be a lot faster (since they know what they are looking for instead of finding the locations and what they mean for the first time).

Even if MemGraft wasn't released, the hacks would still be possible. If all of the hackers used MemGraft to make their hacks, and suddenly MemGraft didn't exist, there would be very few hackers. I think that the idea of making the ONLY hack usable on StarCraft would be MORE than enough motivation for a hacker to locate the addresses themselves. After all, SI isn't the only person in the world who can find memory addresses that a game uses.

Just wait for a bit. Patience is a good thing! If you don't have patience, how would you ever finish a mod in the first place? wink.gif

Umm... you do realize that StarGraft only works for 1.07, and sometimes a few other versions, right...?

It works for every version from when it was released to 1.07.

SACRELIGE! Do you really want to uninstall Starcraft every time you wanted to run a mod? To reload the new patch after it every time? To not be able to play games of mods with friends on Battle.net? Honestly, I don't know why DK is being such a bitch about updating MemGraft.

You don't need to reinstall at all; you just need the patchers. Just delete the patch_rt.mpq, run patch 1.09, and run whatever patch you want (e.g. 1.12b).

If MemGraft isn't updated I don't see how it would affect the community that much. You can't always be dependent on buttons and tech trees changes. While waiting for a update or not, you can learn other modding skills like the iscript.bin.

Modding is nothing without the tech tree changes..

What are you talking about? Tech tree changes is like the other third of stargraft/memgraft.
1/3 = Button addition and modification
1/3 = Modifying the tech tree
1/3 = Implementing new ASM button conditions and actions (not sure if it works for memgraft. Very complicated).
