.:The Storyline:.

"Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie."

All of Middle-Earth is poised for war. The remnants of the Dunédain rise from the ashes, producing Aragorn, the last of the line of Isildur. He alone can lead the armies of the West to victory, but he cannot do it alone. Alongside the men of Gondor ride the horselords of the lands of Rohan, the Rohirrim. To the north dwarves, elves, and men alike band together to face the oncoming storm.

Sauron grows stronger with each passing day, and his ancient keep of Barad-Dûr is rebuilt. The Nazgûl are ready to do their master's bidding, the black riders that instill fear in the hearts of all. Saruman has betrayed the order of the Istari, tainted by the deceiving words of Sauron through the Palantír in Orthanc.

Oh yeah, you're starting the map I've been waiting for the most... make this exclusive to the clan... OR ELSE!!

Looking good. happy.gif

Question on the type of battle's. Are the battles Turn Based, Real Time, or just like a hack and slash type? Anyways, looking forward to testing, and it's not like it's to hard to find me. bleh.gif

You mean I can get the very pretty and talented Rexy to help test this map? biggrin.gif

*gets to work (really furious work) on the triggering*

Depending on how much I get done a day, let's say the beginning of August for testing. Okay, another edit. The battles are real-time and the spawns are turn-based. I'm estimating that there will be 25-30 scripted battles (plus any number of player conceived battles). Another thing - should I have an upgrade system for the computer (castle upgrade that is), or should I set them at a base upgrade? Like two castles of each type.

That is not the real RexyRex if you haven't already been told about or seen the _ after RexyRex_ biggrin.gif

I think that you should have the computer castle upgrade, that would be pretty cool to see. From what you have done so far it looks badass! biggrin.gif So keep up the good work on it.

Ummm, this is about the only thing on your map i have a problem with, about every ohter person on b.net doesnt have cable, and it will take ages to dl, most ppl might leave. Trust me, soundtracks are only for single player maps.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-07-04 at 21:12:00
Trust me, there will only be one version (public version that is), and it will be a one-time download, provided that the file doesn't get lost somehow. What is a few minutes of downloading compared to hours of fun?

sounds nice i always liked lord of the rings

and btw thats the real rex cause he/she (idk) is makin love and hate and if u look at that production thread its the same name...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by slayer766 on 2005-07-05 at 10:12:40
That's because -Jake- the one who is making Love&Hate changed his SEN name, and it effects his name wherever it has been, so -Jake- = RexyRex_ RexyRex = RexyRex The real RexyRex has his name glowing in blue, and his signature says Jake Stole My Name, or something like that.

Cant Wait this map sounds to be the next big LOTR map! Will the major battles (helms deep, minis tirith, march on black gate, pelenor fields, wethertop,Moria, etc) play a large part? I myself would love to see each of thouse battles (beside the feloship battles) from a solder's perspective! and will you actully play a large part in the battle and victory defeat will depend on you? Please make it so that we dont make every battle decesion, if you are gonna win a major battle it would be because of the hero's and large numbers! anyway i am raving JUST MAKE IT GOD DAM FUN AND I BE HAPPY!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by jynoh01 on 2005-07-06 at 11:43:27
It seems VERY good, but isn't there something similar already out on B.net?
But Even though there is one, this version will probably beat that one by miles happy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-07-06 at 16:46:38
Something similar to this? There are a hundred thousand LotR maps, some amazingly worse than others.

.:New Planned Features:.
  • City Information Beacon
  • Comp-Controlled City Castle Upgrades
  • Total Castle per City Limit
  • Selective AI Raiding
  • Hero Information Beacon
  • Choosable Battles
  • Choosable Diplo or LotR Game
  • Choosable Tutorial
.:New Riot System:.
I did not like the old one, so I'm revamping the triggers I already have so that I won't have to redo everything. Now each city, depending on its size, has a different amount of units need to capture. For example, Minas-Tirith may need 15 men but Dunharrow may need 5. Now, instead of the computer gaining control of the city, the defender has a chance to keep their city by spawning a town militia for themselves instead of the computer. Also, the size of the riots will vary, according to the city's size. But, let it be noted that the invincible "tower" defenses will be disabled during the rioting, as the city's trained defenders will have all been slain by this time.

The Riot system sounds really fun Felagund. biggrin.gif Plus with you revamping the trigger work on it to make it even more perfect, that will make the gameplay alot better, so you will have a fair chance to defend your town just like you said. biggrin.gif

There are also some things that I've been thinking about, and some things that I'm considering implementing. The first arose as a possible problem. Why should Mordor be able to spawn men at say Minas-Tirith? Then I figured out that I had wanted this not to be so much as Lord of the Rings storyline driven map as a Lord of the Rings create your own storyline driven map (within certain parameters mind you). Secondly I've been thinking about how generally cut off the northern good nation is from Gondor and Rohan. Would this not make it easy pickings for the combined forces of Mordor, Isengard, and Moria? Well, if you choose a "Lord of the Rings" game over the "Diplo" game, then the good team will receive stuff like Fangorn, Mirkwood, Dale, and the Iron Hills, making their presence much stronger up north (whilst evils get Mt. Gundabad, Harad, and all the cities that the goods don't). That balances it out for the LotR game. However, if you choose a diplo, then there are some other forms of defense. Firstly is the buffer of computer cities between Eriador and the evils. Secondly, the evils can't exactly forget about Gondor and Rohan, or else they'll have a nice army knocking on their doorstep with nothing to answer with. So that takes care of that.

Now onto possible implementations. The defense castle has been up in the air for some time now. If I somehow magically have about 90 spare locations, I could probably do a defensive upgrading system for each city to spawn some bunkers, floor traps, or something. If I can't, then I probably won't (unless I do it for the major cities, alone, which is a better possibility). The other thing I was considering was some naval stuff. It would not be a major feature of the game, but it could add some interesting twists to gameplay. Maybe say have naval spawns at the major shipyard areas like Mithlond, Umbar, and Perlargir. Well, I guess that's all for today.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by slayer766 on 2005-07-06 at 19:46:00
Well I think that you explained it pretty good. biggrin.gif And about the naval spawing, that would be pretty cool, and it would have a twist like you said. And you should have the Major cities do their own city upgrade, like you said also, but a possibility.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-07-09 at 02:36:27
Finally! City capture triggers are complete. Now, this does not encompass rioting which is actually the bulk of the city capture trigger system, but at least players can now lose their cities (but they can't get them back, which would be in the castle upgrade trigger system).

I wonder how you'll react when you realise that this map is many times more better than the ones out there.

Can't you see that this map has features that the others don't? Or are you blind?

Back on topic... good luck on your map.
