Alright, I want to create an object that is not perfectly square, it has smoothed corners, kind of like the "new topic" buttons here. My friend said that you make a gif and you set your options to make a certain color invisible, but she isn't sure how to get it that far. I have photoshop cs, any help?

make a selection with the rectangular marqee too then fill it with the color than take the circular marqee tool for the rounded corners and right click and select inverse and hit delete .. then make the opacity lower until you get the aquired look you want ... of the square thingy u just made.. then save it as a .gif or a png24 not sure which one you want

hope this helps =/

EDIT
i dont think the cicular marqee thing will work so just use the eraser and erase the corners

so just erase? When I've done that before it generates a white background anyways :\ I'll try it out though, thanks n2o

In the photoshop I used in school, you could just go to layers, and delete the background layer.

ADDITION:
err... windows -> Layers then click on the one you don't want anymore (probably labled background), hit delete.

after I save it and upload it onto a place like here the background layer is white.

Are you saving it as a JPEG?

ADDITION:
(You know the layers transparent when it shows these plaid grey boxes)

You can see the white bg on it.

When youre saving it make sure you select transparency.

Only if you're using IE.

Yeah IE sucks... smile.gif

Kame, always save pictures as PNG. Also, when you create a new document in PS:CS, there should be a box that has the background options. Make sure that is set to transparent, otherwise there will be a white BG.

Don't use Infranet Exploder (IE for you slower people) to view it on the internet either.

I have like 4 browsers installed on this comp. IE works fastest on my machine and nothing bad ever happened to me.

PNG is the best but dont ALWAYS save it as png. JPEG is much lower filesize and it was designed to take advantage of your eye.

alright, thanks team. I was trying to save it as a gif file, by the way, but there are many options that I do not understand like 'aliased' and such.
