Lately, everyone seems to blame EVERYTHING on the media. Well, I found this a very serious controversial issues. Now when we start to debate this, know I'm not just talking about violent video games, include the news, other tv shows and music!
How the media doesn't influence us: Well, being a kid as myself, I hate people blaming everything on violent video games and movies. Just because I play Starcraft, Halo, or Run Like Hell all day, doesn't mean I'm gonna grab a gun and go around shooting everyone. Besides, most games these days are about killing aliens not other humans. The news isn't very important to kids, I find some cool stories while waiting for the weather, but none change my opinion on anything.
How the media DOES influence us: Now lets talk about movies. Being the show-offy kid I am, I've always wanted to do what they do in those crazy action movies. Just because I watch them, I want to go around on a motorcycle popping wheelies and dodging trains, go over the speed limit, all without a helmet. Music is SO essential to EVERYONE. There's so many different kinds, the crazy death metal is really making many of the kids go anarchist and want mass destruction. Then there's the super emo that makes the kids hate their own lives and their parents and make them pessimistic like hell. You have no idea how many kids at my school cut their wrists and how many of them draw anarchy signs everywhere. Personally, my music is mindless babble that truly can't convert you to do anything. If I'm down about something, my music will always cheer me up. I loved that the song "Hold On" (forgot the band) got very popular because it really deserved it, it talked about kids committing suicide and it made them THINK.
Um, actually, I watch the news a lot, and it influences what I think about America. Don't say what is and isn't important to kids, dude.
Well, its very dependant on what age you determine as kids. I'd say anywhere from age 8-13 is called being a kid. Now most 8-11 year olds don't really care what's going on with america, I'm not saying ALL, I'm saying many.
Dont make generalizations next time.
I wasn't making a generalization, the word kid just means "a young person" and besides I said most/many not all, which is not a generalization, now lets not turn this into an arguement.
Yeah you did. In the first post, you said "The news isn't important to us kids" and such.
Alright my bad, I need to read my own posts clearly. But okay, so whats your opinion on this?
Media really affects us kids, but video games affect us the most. Games like Grand Theft Auto kinda tells us it is ok to kill cops and do all that stuff.
ADDITION:
At least that's what the news said...
Well then, MA, I suppose the news affects us kids too, eh?!
I dont think games really affect us. They're just that: games. We're smart enough to know that life isn't a game and isn't to be treated like a game. If one can accept that fact, than one can easily play violent games.
Well, you even said it yourself snake, the news influences you...
Maybe you meant to add sarcasm tags.

Well, its also the parents responsibility to make sure their child is mature enough to think for himself. If there's a 9 year old that knows killing is bad and sinful, he's not gonna wanna go kill cops if he starts playing gta. Its all in what kids think is "cool" because its something we can show off to others...kinda dumb

Well what is this "emotional" music you speak of?

Child = 1-7
Kid = 8-12
Teen = 13-18
Young Adult = 19-20
Adult = 21+
(at least that how it is in my eyes)
Emo? its all depressing music that you'd think makes you feel better about yourself but all it really does is make the kids hate their lives and cut their wrists and run away from home and become totally rebellious towards their parents. I don't wanna insult anyone's music and I don't think you need examples.
I still have no idea what style emo is.... If you're talking about "Trance" then stfu

The news says alot of crap, Grand Theft Auto doesn't tell you to kill the cops. And they don't exactly imply it. There are very few missions where you have to kill cops or you fail. Of course the cops chase you if you do something illegal, but they would do that in Real Life also. If you run over a person in Grand Theft Auto and A place officer is near by, He/She is going to go after you. Same thing in real life.
When my Grandfather was murdered (he lived in South America) the media got to his house at the same time the police did... as a result of that, not much said on the news influences me...

He isn't. Emo is a type of rock, don't get so defensive.
Media does effect us, Kellimus really likes trance, bad talking it makes him defensive. This is not a bad thing.
You're asking a forum online if the medii effects us. It obviously effects you if you play SC, or video games, and feel that it does not make you want to go shoot something. That is not a bad thing.
The medii effects me; usually it is not tv, I haven't really seen a tv show until the end in a very long time, like a few years. Most of it sucks, in my opinion, but that's unrelated. The newspaper and magazines however do effect me. If you find someone who is not effected in some way by a headline reading blatently "WORLD TRADE TOWERS IN NEW YORK, AMERICA DESTROYED YESTERDAY: [enter number of casualties and time]", I will give you an imaginary cookie. The only people who were not effected by that across the globe were the people six feet under or those who were too young to even know what their name was.
agreed. the madia are overreacting. the chance of a child in my country (UK) is about 1 in 100,000,000! and the media are trying to ban all games that have the merest hint of violence or agression. i men, that would leave just little bunnies picking dasies and eating cucumbetr sandwiches. GET A GRIP MAN, that isnt gonna happen, and that will leave nothing. sony, nintendo, etc will go out of bizness. all bcause of the media.

damn them 2 hell.

i think the media does affect u in some sort of way, like the terri schiavo (can't spell it) incident, that really made a lot of people really think, i know it made me think.
Yeah, that was a very debatable issue, I was so surprised so many people that shouldn't have been got into it. They even brought religon into, things like "God wants her to live". That's kinda annoying how they can find a reason to put god in everything, and then displaying it on the television. My teacher was unallowed to discuss religon and politics, but she still did. She'd use the word god at least twice a day, and I mean not just (OH MY GOD or GOD DANGIT (heh, I'm trying to stop the cursing))

Media is mostly controlled by left wing gernade throwers and my foxhole won't last long.
I didn't really understand the left wing grenaders post
The news effects us, but I'm talking about other things, like music, internet, games. Especially games, even gta doesn't make me wanna kill, because you know, the more you kill, the more people want to kill you, and eventually you end up dead and starting all over again.. I don't want people to kill me

Chris, there is no neutral news. The right-wing news are Republican puppets. The left-wing news are Democratic puppets. SO WATCH THE BRITISH BROADCASTING CORP! =DDDDDDDDD
Well, I consider neutral news the kind that would rather not involve itself in war and politics, the news that speaks of local issues. I would rather hear about 10 deaths because of a car crash than 100 deaths because of a suicide bombing car crash. The weather, sports, are they not 'neutral'?
Uhh uhh... NO!
You see, the weather people are trying to send us secret messages.
Take for example, this picture:
http://i.somethingawful.com/inserts/articl...news/MOSFET.jpg
It is taken from a uh, trusted news site. They are trying to tell us something!!!I think news that shows as many opinions as possible is neutral, not just the ones that reflect the propoganda that needs to be fed.

I'm hoping you're kidding because somethingawful.com is a bunch of stupid idiots with too much time on their hands (aka no lives).
