Alright, so heres the thing. Clearly we all make maps to be played on, sometimes that doesn't always work out here, so I've decided to take some initiative. Skip to bottem for nutshell explanation.
I will be hosting a Tournement, probably July 15th or 16th where anyone who wishes may play... but in particular I'd like participation from melee forum goers. My first goal is to determine the maps we'll be playing on, so just PM them to me or post them in here if you prefer and they'll likly be played on (unless they're really not worth playing, please don't be offended but no one wants to play on a diamond of doom with no expansions). After I've gotten a good number of maps, I'll edit this post to include the maps we'll be playing on, simple enough right?
Next, I'll be getting people to sign up, by simply posting in this forum telling us what their B.Net name is. I'm not sure how I'll set up the tourny, but I'll figure out a way by Wednesday, which I'll make the cut off date for joining.
I'm thinking we should have best out of 3 matches, with the maps changing between games in order to get the maximum exposure. The tournement will probably go late into to the night, so try to make time please, if Friday and Saturday are bad days for you (and they probably are, my schedual is taking a hit too here) then we may be able to move it to a day during the week, depending on if we have the majority of people on vacation or not.
In a nutshell:
-Maps from SEN
-Players from all over
-Around the 15th
-Best of 3 games
-Probably going late into the night, unless a significant amount want to play in the afternoon (in which case I'll have to make special considerations to wake up)
I'll be advertising the tournement in my signature =/ Since I've been posting everywhere lately (I'm not proud of it) that should get a bit of attention. Any questions you have that I havn't already answered please state so in PM to me, I'll be sure to add it to this post.
Cheers,
I'm in.... under one and only one condition, and that is aE[Felagund] better not be in this or I won't participate.

me to, i dont want that laggy thing he's doing. and i live in the west so times might be different if ur hosting this on east.
I'd do it, but the maps here suck and are mega-imbalanced.
Except for Outlaw Star though, that map roxxors.
I'd say:
Temple
Luna
Nostalgia
Estrella
Requiem
That's a fairly balanced pool of maps, and no one will lose because of mineral/race/positional imbalance.
I might do it depending on what time it is... i cant stay up past 9:00 on sc normaly... Im eastern bu the way...
Trcc is good, but his minerals are bad, and I don't know how good the balance is. I'm not insulting anyone, but I don't see any of the maps here being fair in a tourney. Namely, most maps here are imbalanced ZvT and PvT.
If there's just small discrepancies in the maps, it should be fine. It's not like this tournament would count for anything; it's just trying to put our melee maps to use.
Whatever, but I don't like losing (or winning) knowing that it was because of mining discrepencies/positional imbalances.
I can participate in the tourny
Ihatett, why did you stop doing maps? X_X. For my maps, I'm trying as much as possible to make them balanced.. Though i don't really catch how to make mineral placement balanced or what it makes it unbalanced :S
I think work is really eating up his schedule, just like my work is eating up mine as well, kinda. Well not really since I only work about 24 hours a week, dunno bout ihatett.
I have a full time job, and I get home at this time every day.
That doesn't leave much time for map making, and I want to be able to play Starcraft some. On weekends I'm usually not home, and same with Fridays. My friend is late getting from work today though, so that's why I'm here right now.
Also, I am working on my own RTS, which really drains me of any motivation from making maps for another. Lastly, the expectation has moved from balance to decoration, and I hate decorating.
I still love playing, though, and watching the pro scene.
Don't you have something better to do than watch other people play games?
Besides, if you win or lose it'll be because of strategies. There are strategies for any occasion, so if you're witty enough, you'll think of something to pull through. In fact, I think players should play imbalanced maps to get better (as training of course). This is a good opportunity for players to not only increase their melee mapping skills (which is direly needed), but to increase their playing skills as well on their unbalanced maps.
Yeah Felagund, you pissed off quite a few people in the melee community here at SEN, and comments like that aren't going to make it any better.

1. Playing on imbalanced maps doesn't help you because you learn to counter strats that you won't actually see.
2. Watching televised Broodwar games is no different than watching televised football games. No difference. None.
3. But making UMS maps for a relatively tiny UMS community is a waste of time.
wesmic better not be zerg.
It won't matter, Ultimo, since I will defeat all of you hahaha!
Having pro maps in it is a stupid idea. It should only be SEN finest. Make a mappack of 4-5 maps and play them.
I will try to work on a tourny script for broodwarmaps.net, maybe we could merge the two projects (Times will be a problem though, as most bwmaps.net users are located in europe) ?
If it is possible to me for the time, I might play in it too, I like playing new maps (actually, I just refuse to play any more Lost temple)
Knock yourself out. They may not be the best, but if there is no competition....

In a way I somewhat agree with you. Like for instance, those Fastest Possible Map Ever maps are unbalanced but people still manage to pull through and win with their races.
True, playing on SOME slightly imbalanced maps are good for training but not all (ie: Gorky Island). And unfortunately most unbalanced maps here are unbalanced liked gorky island.

1. In a way true. But if you play on the right imbalanced maps, it'll be just like weight training or playing a sport against a tougher better opponent; it'll make you better faster than if you did very light weights or played against a very weak opponent.
2.
very true
3. Both might be a waste of time, but for some people i think it's much easier to get famous with UMS maps as you can put your names in the briefing or force slots and the ordinary people on battle.net will see them right away without having to look up the file in their downloads folder and check the map description to see whether the author's name is there or not.

I hate football. i would much rather watch SC on tv than football. There should be a BWTV in the US.
If its ok i would like to have my map Solar Disarray played on, im looking to improve it...

I love this idea. I agree, playing on pro maps defeats the whole purpose of this. But anyways, count me in
.
ugh, i probaly cant make it cuz my starcraft keeps freezing after i use it for 10-20 minutes.
these two maps i like most of those i created, so i would be glad if you used them in the tourney.
