Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Families of Soldiers
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sonoco on 2005-07-08 at 12:45:32
I don't know how it is in the US but every time a UK soldier dies over in iraq, the family launch a campiagn against the war calling it unjust and do all kinds of things to discredit the priminister.

Let me just say that I have the deepest sympathy for the family, but does this piss anyone else off? Your son/daughter signed on the to the military knowing full well the potential consequences, knowing full well that they could be sent off to war in another country.

Why does the war suddenly become unjust when THEIR child dies? why is it only important then.

I accept it might be part of their grieving process but this angers me no end, and furthermore when i say to people they look at me like im some kind of monster for thinking it.

Just wondering if anyone agrees with me.

I agree. People are irrational like that though.

THey just can't stand the fact that their loved ones die i guess. Kind of said in a way. But many of us are wired that way

We don't really care about other people as much as we say we do. We bullshit each other, as well as ourselves, a lot.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-07-08 at 13:44:57
I care about other people, if they are my friends. I show sympathy for people who lose people but *uck. Who really cares what people think?

I also care about people I love (My wanna be wife)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Loser_Musician on 2005-07-08 at 13:45:53
I personally care what other people think. Like the police for example.

I agree with them. Well, at least the Police from Preston Idaho (Napoleon Dynamite's town)

In US, when a soldier dies, the family launchs a campaign in favor of the war "to kill the bastards that killed my [son/daughter/he-she offspring]".

But anyways, Sunoco, I agree. If they didn't want their son or whatever to die, they shouldn't of let them sign up for the censored.gif in army.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by yeow on 2005-07-08 at 19:36:17
You can't really stop them.. it's their choice to join and they are of the age where they can make their own decisions without them being questioned.

Anyways, I think It's Simply Human Nature and people's way of grieving. Can't really stop them either.

I would rather people adopted a sadder rather than madder attitude, and valued life that much more instead of wanting to end it. Then many wars would never have occured.

This is why the military system sucks.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheDaddy0420 on 2005-07-08 at 22:01:57
In America, most Soldier families are patriotic and believe in waht our country is doing. Now I am saying MOST, but not all. At least thats the way my friends acrosse the street family see it. (Brad Jenison, Army Ranger). When an American soldier dies, their family grieves and becomes extremely sad )as any other family would do so) but I haven't heard of that many stories as when a family goes against the war. I hear alot of stories about American veterans going anti war, but not the families of dead soldiers.

When a soldier happens to be from a hippie family that campaigns against the war, it always makes news.

I dont really care if families are sad about a loved one dying in war, but as people said before me, they should grow up, not parade saying " my son/daughter/girl-boy offspring went to war and died. People, unite!". They knew the risks, wasnt smart enough to get a good job, so chose the military. shifty.gif if the parents are parading, they probably didnt teach the son/daughter/girl-boy offspring well enough to get a real job, so its partly their fault.
And, just to scare you people a bit, i feel no pain or sympathy whatsoever when people i dont know or care about (or family i dont know or care about) die.

But you should care about AMERICAN people dieing in battle. Plus its not that they were stupid and joined the army. Many poor poeple don't have enough money to go to college, so they join the military and it pays for their college education. Also, once you get out of the military and you put down on your resume that you were in the military, its an almost instant hire for any job in your field.

I know I have a plan on going to the air force acadamy and once I do my time in the Air force for 4 years or what ever, Im going to retire from the military and join an Air line company as a pilot. They make SO MUCH money. my god....

I was thinking of joining the Army, but then I got hired as a programmer, which sort of took the wind out of that idea. If ever have to quit, I'll probably join the Army, both because it would be fun fighting, and because it looks fantastic on you resume (don't want to look in the character map).

Also, if I ever want to get into politics, it increases my chance of winning any election dramatically. I'm sure you guys would love seeing my in office. wink.gif

Heh, if you get into office, either force Blizzard to create SC2, and make it REALLY good, or bribe them with lots of the money the government has to make SC2 and make it REALLY good tongue.gif Also do the same to make Blizzard shutdown WoW and Warcraft biggrin.gif

Also, I think that if a family member was in the army, and you go against the war, with the only reason being your family member dying there, it's sort of contradictory, and makes it look like your family member died in vain.

And they retire pretty early. (The current law says something about them having to retire at 50 or 55 I believe) My teacher was an airplane pilot last year. It's cool a job. cool1.gif

Why don't you join the Marines? Or the Army? Is it cause you're frightened of dieing? Is it cause you're trying to spread your Militious bull shit without telling everyone here the facts?

If you join the Army or the Marines, you have the most chance of dieing.

Join the Navy or the Air Force, you have the least chance of dieing.

mmm wow, un needed rant......

Maybe its becuase I have loved flying all my life, and my parents have pressured me to become a pilot, and Im patriot, wanting to be a pilot+ Patriot = Air Force. I was also thinking of being a helicopter pilot, but the market for that isn't as big as normal plane pilots.
