Staredit Network -> Art & Images -> Deserted - Terragan
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kame on 2005-07-11 at 15:47:27
Get that title? Its a desert, and there's nothing on it- ahaha...okay I'm done. It originally started out as mars, but I didn't like the red in it, so I changed it. It looks sort of alien, which is sort of the look I was going for. This is my first terragen piece, so I'd appriciate any constructive criticism you have.

By the way, its copyrighted. Please don't rip. -.-;

Terragen is a program that renders landscapes. Its free, you can download it on the internet I just don't remember the site.

So you choose, Render>Desert and it makes it for you? huh.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-07-13 at 21:29:15
I think its a little more complicated then that. ;p
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ShadowBrood on 2005-07-13 at 22:05:07
Render>Desert>Funky Desert>Desert with 2.573 Cacti>Desert with 3 jackrabbits>Desert with Kame dancing a jig

Would that make it? biggrin.gif

You start with a black box, and you choose a texture. You take a brush, and based on whether you right click or left click raise or lower the terrain. You choose sun light color settings, haze ammounts, and camera angle. Its a bit more complex then choose desert settings.

Ahh, interesting. Now can these be saved as actual 3D models? That would be VERY VERY useful.

I made a topic about Terragen a while back, and it was pretty popular for once.

I'll post my array of pics as soon as possible.

Shadowbrood: You can make Quicktime VRs out of them, but that's about it.

EDIT: Here are the pics - these are my better ones and they show what you can do with the program once you get a bit of experience with it.

Thos look nice, Will, but you use a lot of Haze.

bah. I'm too afraid to use the water render option. >< One day...

Wow, 1337sauce Will!

That would be cool if you could save them as like... 3DM or 3DS or hell even gmax!

I think you can import 3DMs; not sure about export though.

FK: Yeah, rendering water can take a long time if you've got a slower processor or less memory.

Looks cool though.

I hope they add some forestation and construction options to Terragen to create any environment.

Yeah, they plan to add ground clutter and stuff, perhaps in Terragen 2 (which looks pretty damned impressive).

Do you know when that's supposed to be released, and if you have to pay for it? I don't wanna pay... (Terragen is free legally by the way)

I hear that there will be a free version of Terragen 2, but some features may be locked out, like they are in Terragen, until you register ($100-200 apparently).

I'm a registered user of TG1, so I'll get a discount. tongue.gif

Yeah, but you know that someone's gonna hack the damn thing and distribute it all over the net fully unlocked for free. Just watch.

Terragen uses the keyfile protection method, which is fairly difficult to bypass permanently.

If it had been easy, I'd probably already have done it...

This is my first one I made with this program:

I think it's time to keep this topic at the top. wink.gif

Some more recent works of mine (like yesterday and today):

[attachmentid=11912][attachmentid=11914][attachmentid=11915]
[attachmentid=11916][attachmentid=11917][attachmentid=11918]
[attachmentid=11919]

I have been busy (and bored) recently. tongue.gif

How are other peoples' works coming along? It isn't exactly hard to get started - more people need to start working with the program!
