Staredit Network -> UMS Production -> My newest map
Report, edit, etc...Posted by darth_ender on 2005-07-14 at 12:47:52
Well, I am well underway on my sequel to A Grander Vision. It's nearly complete. It will actually be a very short map with a simple objective, but I believe it will be fun. It's truly more of tie between Grander Vision and the next map (which is nothing but a mental image at this point).

In order to get a little hype and hopefully provide me with ideas for the future of this map and all others, I am starting this thread. It will be a lot of air power (a real contrast to my last map). Any fans of my style know I really aim for something that has never been done. Well, trust me that this is unique. To give a bit of an idea, I have again created a new unit: the Infested Carrier. It actually carries scourges instead of interceptors, and the effects are pretty cool. It's definitely a tough booger. Just out of curiousity, does anyone want me to post my progress?

Also, I really need feedback on my FOUR-PLAYER version of A Grander Vision. The ultimate goal is to make all my existing maps into a four player campaign (with The Queen of Blades as a starter). I don't believe there are any campaigns with that many players in existence, so that should be something unique and new, but I really need feedback. The thread for the most current version of the four-player Vision (as well as 2 player) is

Make sure you download the 4 PLAYER VERSION at the bottom and try it out on map night. Sorry at this point my computer doesn't have internet. Please give me feedback, and perhaps ideas for future maps in this series.

Hmmm, I like the Infested Carrier thing carring the scourages instead of intercepters. wink.gif

Ummm, i don't have any suggestions but i have a question: Are you a modder? confused.gif

I am not a modder. I sure don't have enough computer programming skills. However, I do consider myself a problem solver, and I think of alternative triggers to create desired effects. Have you seen my infested zealots in A Grander Vision? They are pretty cool, if I say so myself. But none of my maps require mods. They just use complicated triggers.

Infested Carrier sounds really cool, and hard to do. Plus I love maps that the creators think outside to box and do thing that having been done before. Good luck! I see if i can get back to you about ideas, but I'm not very good. sad.gif

Yep, same with darth ender and touch pad. I am not very good at computer programming and only know how to make maps and make websites.

Very cool map. Can't wait to see it!

aww, 4 players, i happened to like playing by myself instead of with people who have no idea how to play and/or are just being complete idiots. And you have come up with another new unit i see, very impressive! you have done great maps before so you should have no problem completing this one.

Wow, good feedback so far! That earned my fans a little treat. I always wonder how much of a map to divulge before posting it, but I guess I can go ahead and tell this interesting little secret. The map is not mostly air units. The map is COMPLETELY air units. To my knowledge, what I am doing is creating the FIRST map to take place entirely in space terrain, no land whatsoever! That means no resources, no building. Not really any need for exploring. This map is based entirely on one's tactical skills in space combat. Believe me, it will be not just something stupid. I'm putting some real thought and effort into the way the computer behaves. You will be outnumbered, but you will have to use your skills to complete your objective against a seemingly overwhelming opposing force. It shouldn't take too long to actually play, but I think it will be fun.

What do you guys think? Sound good? Like I've said, it is an interesting tie between this and the next map. I hope everyone likes another original map with a new unit. I will post my progress soon.

That infested carrier sounds cool, I take it the triggers look something like this?
Trigger
Players:
¤ Infested ones
Conditions:
¤ Bring at least 1 interceptor to "anywhere"
Actions:
¤ Center location "switch" on interceptor owned by Infested
¤ Remove 1 interceptor for "infested" at switch
¤ create 1 scourge at "switch" for infested
¤ Order scourge at "switch", attack any unit brought to "air" by foes
¤ Preserve trigger (Maybe modify interceptor count on carrier too?)

[CODE]

Actually I employed a different method. He just pumps out his scourges, up to a certain number. I thought of doing it that way, but opted for something different (easier to create a limit to the number of scourges, etc.). The most difficult thing was having the scourges buzz around the carrier like a bunch of bees. It really looks cool, and his attack is lethal.

So does anyone like this idea? Should I let you guys download what I've got so far? At this point there still is no dialogue, mission briefing, victory or defeat conditions. The good guy fleet od ships is also not in a final stage. They're set up for the purpose of attacking and seeing how the different things are working. It is only one player at the present as well.

I need help with an idea, too. I was hoping someone had some way i could use the guardians. Since they only attack ground, I don't know what I might be able to do to incorporate them. I could maybe find some different effect, but I can't think of one. Any ideas? If not, I guess they just won't be there. I'd love to hear more.

ADDITION:
I am continuing the discussion from this thread here:

There is also an early version of the map. Enjoy!

You create a location that follows the gaurdians, and when an enemy unit enter the location, a scourge appears at the gaurdian to kill the enemy air unit.
