Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheDaddy0420 on 2005-07-15 at 02:56:06
Me and my team have begun production of a quick WW2 map based on the troop landings at Utah beach during Operation Overlord during WW2. The action will take place on the beach and surrounding county side.

Features:

New beach terrian, never seen in this kind of map.

Artillary placements.

Audio wav.s, which include clips from Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and many more!

6 person action: Germans: Tank Force, Artillary crew, Main Army. Americans: 101st Airborne, Infantry, Infantry/Vehicles.

Spawn points, fields, Normandy terrian. Towns and villages.

Realism!!!!!!!!!!!

Mission:

The Germans mission is to hold the beach and country side for 35 minutes (still testing times). The Americans mission is to take the beach, capture the towns and take the country side.

This is S.T.A.R.S of Ra Production.

(Screen shots and updates coming soon!)

Will this be a Bnet map?
If so.. dont overuse sounds cause noone want to download a huge map before playing. You should rather use the starcraft sounds.

The Marine's "Go go go" and sounds like that add a good enviroment to the map.

If you need beta testers, I'm up for it. =)

There's germans and americans, two teams. So it'll definately be a battle.net map. And well... if the map download is way too long, just make a /w sound and no sound version of the map.

35 minutes seems like a pretty short amount of time for this type of map. Maybe add more time and objectives (like maybe the Americans have to secure some area in a certain amount of time aside from successfully invading the area, and if they do they get a bonus) or something?

Other than that, this map sounds pretty good. biggrin.gif

Yea its not bad. I would like to see really what it looks like blink.gif . I would like to know more about it like the outline? or what game play will be like. I don't know. What creative things are with it? just stuff like that. SHow some Screenshots As soon as possible man. Well it sounds good. Good luck

They are basing it on the actual WW2 events, if they want side missions and more time I suggest they study a bit to find out if theres any way to implement a longer game.

Well I suggested that because if they were basing it completely on WW2 events, then the map's outcome would be predetermined.

I Think you should Make the Game last for at Least An Hour and 30 mins. If you really want to it look like WW2 it wouldn't take 35 mins just to breach at the Beaches since the Germans mainly Focuses on the Beaches to protect Normandy.

-=Suggestions=-

1.) -=Preparing=-

I Think you Should make the First 10 Mins of the Game start in January Something 1944, when the Germans realize that there was an invasion and grant the German Player a certain amount of Cash to set up their Defence before Normandy Invasion starts and after 10 mins has passed Move your game date to June 4th.

While The Germans Set up the Beaches in the first 10 mins you should make the Allies have a chance to plan out their strategy of Invasion on Normandy Beach
and build Certain types of units that they want to arrive to the Beach.

Reason-This will let the Player allowed to set up their own defence on the beaches in their own way and this will also allow the other player on the other side Plan out their strategy to invade the beach and prepare themselves with the Certain Units that they want. This will also mean an Increase of Replay Value when ppl try to play again and try to make up new Strategies to protect or Invade the beach.

2.) -=Alternative Events=-

You Should also Grant Alternative events that could of happened.

Example: IF the Allied Airborne wasn't able to secure Bridges then the Germans will be able to move their Tanks and allow to Counter the Allied Forces from the Beach.

Reason- This will make the Game more interesting since if the Alternative Event is activated it will make the players stop for 5 mins and think about a quick strategy to stop the Counter Force.

3.)-=Intelligence=-

If Your Planning To Do my #1 Suggestion then i suggest you should also add this.
Its called "Intelligence" During the first 10 mins you should allow the player to spend some cash on "Intelligence" which is "Information about the Enemy"

Reason- This will increase Replay Value since ppl can get information about what unit the player has and allow to Counter them.

4.) -=Optional Breach=-

In June 4th 1944, The Allied Forces must Bombard The Beaches to before they send troops and such blah blah blah BUT why don't you make the OPTIONAL and if they don't Bombard they can save up Cash to make more Infantry's and Such or they can Spend the money on other Types of Breach Tactics such as "Shingle Removal", "Tank Wall Removal" "Allowing the Players to Aerial Bomb the Beaches hitting German Bunkers and such"

Reason-You may want it to be REAL AND THE ACTUAL D-DAY BUT don't forget that In Maps Like these it should make the Player Imagine like if they're a REAL GENERAL and giving them a chance to think and make their own strategies in order to do this or that and as a General they should have Flexibility.

5.)-=Researching=-
I Think You Should also allow the Players to Research New Units
Such as the Sherman Firefly

Reason- Just to make it More Realistic

6.)-=Towns and Cities=-

Just Say if an Allied Squad Invades a City. They Capture the City and Get More Cash. That is not Realistic at all. I suggest that if you invade a Town or City you Get Intelligence of what The German have from the French Resistance and gain the Flexibility to even Communicate to the main fleet and Send Material or Troops to that city also and you can also make that you get reinforcments from the French Cities and Towns.

Reason-Makes it More Realistic

7.) -=Invading Towns and Cities=-

The Majority of WW2 Games I see that when you Invade a City all you do i Mass in a Certain Direction and who ever has More support or Firepower is the Victor. I Think thats also unrealistic. I think its also about Mobility and it should also depend on where you Place Your Defence but in order to do these things the player requires to have and unbalanced terrain for the cities such as highlevel terrain.

Reason-Makes its Realistic

NOTE-
I Think What most WW2 Games are missing is the Flexibility in Real Wars.
The Flexibility to Bomb this, the Flexibility to do that, The Flexibility to make their own dessicsions. In The Usual WW2 Game I play it makes me feel like a Mere Captain or a Lieutenant But if you make a Map that has Flexibility of making your Own descsion and making up your own strategy it will make you feel like a Field Marshall, or a General of the Army. I think that people would want to know what it feels to be like Rommel, Montgomery,Eiszen Hower, or SGT General Patton and making people think if they can even be better in strategic Warfare than them.

Sounds like a good idea, but many players won't like waiting aroud for those 5 or 10 minutes. Maybe an option people can choose from.....
