i used the mineral and gas containers for requirements in the Armory, and many other powerups as well. as powerups are the best units to use for "items", i can't really do anything with items in WOS, like creating weapons as you can otherwise do in WOW. the nonlinear part of WOS would be the choice of selecting your training instead of, like Marine Boot Camp, start with a civ->get marine->goliath->finish game. i'd probably use a countdown trigger after each mission, for a free time for players to train as much as possible.
also, what do you guys think about the best choice of getting game over?
either:
lose 1 unit -> auto game over
-or-
control 0 units -> restart all trainings
the former would be a lot easier to do, but that'll make the game a lot harder to play and get through. it would be a good choice if you want to express the fact that in starcraft melee and stuff there's no way you can get through a map without losing at lease one unit.
the latter would require some kinda "restart" switch or something, once activated, erases all records of player's training, which would be stored as Deaths suffered by player.
Therefore I guess this is what i'll do:
After player completes training, add 1 death to player of that unit.
If player controls zero units, end game in defeat for current player, so there's no chance for that death to interfere with the training storage part.

is still needed! oh won't someone respond to the call of duty!
