Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> When will someone do something!?!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by www.com.au on 2005-07-17 at 06:38:23
I know over the years there have been many hacks, and they keep getting more advanced and evolved. Recently there was an uproar about the morph hack, and blizzard put out a patch stopping that. That has done good and stopped the morph hack, but there are already hacks that have been developed to work with 1.13. My friend has a hack (which i managed to talk him out of.. w00t happy.gif) and we went in a private game, and he showed me some of the things that it can do. This hack is called Inhale, and was usable before 1.12 came out, but now works for 1.13. its rare at the moment, but im sure it wont take to long to spread. Have a look at some of the features.

- Spoofing Download progress in game lobby
- Colours in text in game lobby and in game.
- A freezebyte (drops everyone playing)
- Map hack (reveal screen)
- Coloured symbols to represent: a hand giveing player the finger, A cross upside down with the words: Jesus hates you and the Nazi symbol.

Thats jsut some of the stuff that can be done. now its nothing new at all, its been around well over a year. Neither does it pose a direct threat to the game itself. But, it is just downright annoying. The things they are capapable of are only ever used for causing chaos andannoying people.

My point is: How many times do we have to face opponents that map hack, or use the stack hack!?!

I heard of an anti-hack that makes hackers turn against their own men, but it does not work in the most recent hacks. i have actually got a replay of it working.

[attachmentid=11782]

(If this isnt the right replay, please say so.)

But there arn't any anti-hacks now. Why not? is what i want to know. i bet theres hundreds or even thousands of people that could code something simple to mess up hackers game experiance.

better yet, Blizzard made the game, they would probably have a deeper understanding of how it works, why havent they tried to stop it??

When Blizzard gets paid to do something, that's when. Is it really possible to code protections for this? I really don't know. The only that probably is counterable is the Map Hack. Things like text inputs can't really be stopped.

Nothing is counterable in hacking. Blizzard does its best to stop hackers--you'll notice maphacks might stop working after an update--but the code will be cracked and the hackers will go back to hacking.

That's wrong, DK has told me that it's impossible to stop maphacks. The only way to really detect it is if the idiot who is using it selects something outside their field of view, or their units attack up a cliff without getting attacked or having vision there first. That or maybe having both parties run some kind of program to detect hacks in the background like bws.

Oh its possible to stop any hack. Just like its possible to hack anything. (i once hacked my lunch with my knife blushing.gif )(for those of u who don't get it, 'hack' can also mean 'cut')
Its just a bit harder to anti-hack then hack, so hacks stay ahead.

Hm.. i just thought of a nasty hack.. what if u can control enemy units... there better not be hackers listening in (looks around)

I think that would be just as bad as the morph hack and if Blizzard was so quick to patch that then I have confidence they would patch another really bad hack like that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-07-17 at 18:48:40
Yah.. but it will bring complete cataclysm to the sc world while its there, wouldnt u say? instant victories... ppl getting 100-0-0 fast..

Did patch 1.13 get rid of the morph hack or not? Cause from what I know, SC melee went down the poo.gif because any noob can instantly make mutas AND GET MONEY FROM IT!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2005-07-17 at 21:38:32
Yes, it did. It was the primary reason for 1.13.

I never understood the morph hack. Everytime I tried to watch the replay of DK, the probes would just explode and the comp would kill everyone. Anybody got a non-corrupt replay of the glitch?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2005-07-18 at 12:34:08
You probably watched it IN 1.13. tongue.gif

Haha, whoops! How was it discovered? If more people keep discovering stuff like this, we're screwed.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HorroR on 2005-07-18 at 21:18:41
DeathKnight made it. I like to believe that he was experimenting...but I'm pretty sure that's the reason. And off topic for a moment: www.starcraft.org DO NOT BELIEVE THAT DK. On topic: People are just greedy about records and cheat to get them. It's just a bunch of numbers of how many you win or lost or got disconnected from. It's not a big deal, you just go onto Battle.net to have fun, not try to ruin it.

When every Blizzard fines a way out to patch up evrey single way to protect evrey single hack.

There will never be a way to patch up hacker's, That's why they are called hackers.

So this means, Hacking will never be finished.

Shouldnt this be in Anything goes?
anyways Hacking is rediculours, but sadly i don;t think it will ever be stopped because a new patch comes out, new hacks come out. It will always repeat like that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Pineapple on 2005-07-19 at 00:27:45
No, This shoulden't be in Moose Zone. Do you consider hackers a Serious threat?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Parthx86 on 2005-07-19 at 00:38:11
No, I don't. I think hackers are pretty amusing.

Spoof Hack: I think its not that bad at all, if you seem to have seizures from bright colors being put in the same old green and black over and over again, report it.

Map Hack: Players that use these are the funnest to play with. They concentrate so hard on watching YOUR base that they don't think about their own. OH NO! He knows I'm making mass wraith, I bet he can counter that because he's watching me! Too bad he doesn't even have an armory.

Disconnect Hack: Haha, have you ever seen someone join with a record like 53-2-65? They suck. It just makes it that much easier to kick their censored.gif because you don't even have to destroy their whole base. One time I even had a guy threaten to disconnect himself if his ally didn't ally. Well, we killed him and right before his nexus exploded, whats this? "Waiting for players:". >.<

Spamming Hacks: Meh, these are the only ones that bother me. They're usually pretty funny but when someone uses em over and over again, I get sick of it. Take a picture and report.

Inhale isn't rare. It's at a webiste I'm obvioulsy not stating.

Parthx86, I think your assuming alot. I lived with dial-up for 2 years or more.As a result, I got disconnected alot. I thought it was a miracle back then, when I finally got more wins than my disconnects. I also played Comp Stomp games so I used to have records of like 17-5-33.

Spoof hacks are name hacks.. making your name some random illy or name like Computer. And some spam hacks dont display names.. you can't tell who is doing it. Those are kinda interesting to watch, but I haven't seen one of those since 1.11 or 1.12.

I also don't think that people who use Map Hacks constantly stare at enemies bases. When I backstab, I SOMETIMES throw on Inhale to see if people are moving units to come and attack me, or if I get backstabbed, I put inhale on to see what the guy is doing. Even in Human vs. Human games, map hack is more used to find expansions or to see if the human is moving his//her units, especially in Non-Money Maps.
