Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> The Matrix - Skills And Upgrades
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-04-11 at 22:06:12
Short introduction:
Yes everyone. I'm making a matrix map that will incorporate the storylines of all 3 matrix movies. It will break the limits of the UMS mapping world with many music numbers from the matrix, actual skyscrapers in the map, increased matrix style speed, and sound effects. The most realistic map yet. Don't be fooled by this crappy description, its way better than this. I'd post screenshots if I felt like it.

Content:
Alright. I'm planning on adding a new concept onto the map. It'll add a little bit of RPGish and will allow different outcomes in the game.

Skills = A ability your character can aquire. Has 3 levels to it. It consumes energy (represented by Gas). Energy replenishes at a constant rate as long as you aren't using these powers. While using a power, if you run out of gas, your ability stops.
Upgrades = A single level enhancement to your character.

Different Characters can only have a maximum of certain skills. Here they are:

THE ONE
Skills that they can already have:
  • Fly - Player can fly (turns into a scourge) (only when player realizes they are "the one") {consumes energy at a constant rate while flying. Player cannot fly when in a major battle.}
Level 0 - Player can fly with a high consumption (eg, 20 gas/second). Player requires no enemies to be directly adjancent to him.
Level 1 - Player can fly with modified consumption (eg 15 gas/second). Player requires no enemies to be directly adjancent to him.
Level 2 - Player can fly with modified consumption (eg 10 gas/second). Player has no requirements to fly except for energy.
Level 3 - Player is like a plane (eg 5 gas/second). Player has no requirements to fly except for energy.
  • Alternate weapon - Can pick up an object on the map and use it as a weapon. They change to another unit. Upon death of the unit, or expiration of the timer, they turn back to normal. The more levels you have, the more powerful the weapon you can pick up. However, more powerful weapons are more rare wink.gif (only when player realizes they are "the one") {one time use energy, weapon holding is timed}
Level 0 - Player can pick up the metal pole (as seen in the Matrix - Reloaded wink.gif)
Level 1 - Player can pick up the bomb (its a infested terran)
Level 2 - Player can pick up daggers
Level 3 - Player can pick up the sword

THE ONE AND THE PLAYERS
  • Bullet Time - Player can "freeze" units allowing him/her more time to take action, or a tactical advantage to destroy more of the enemy. (This ability is automatically available to any player immediately when they are able to attack) {consumes energy at a constant rate while in bullet time.}
Level 0 - Player can freeze one unit adjancent to them. Consumes at a decent rate (eg 25 gas/sec)
Level 1 - Player can freeze all units adjancent to them, however the location is small (2x2). Consumes at a lower rate (eg 20 gas/sec)
Level 2 - Player can freeze all units adjancent to them, location is larger (4x4). Consumes at a low rate (eg 15 gas/sec)
Level 2 - Player can stay in bullet time for ages, location is huge (4x4). Consumes at a extremely low rate (eg 10 gas/sec)

HOW MANY SKILLS CAN YOU HAVE TOTAL?
There are also other skills, but your limited to the number total you can have. Its based upon difficulty level.
THE ONE
Easy - Can have up to 4 other skills.
Normal - Can have 3 other skills.
Hard - Can have 2 other skills.
PLAYER
Easy - Can have 6 other skills.
Normal - Can have 5 other skills.
Hard - Can have 4 other skills.

OKAY, WHAT ARE THE OTHER SKILLS
The skills you saw above are automatically given at certain points. These ones you must buy and work upon them. They are considered "Other Skills".
  • Vehicle Control - Player can take control of a vehicle (the vehicle must be parked) {as you grow more levels, finding the more advanced vehicles becomes more difficult}
Level 0 - Can take control of a slow car.
Level 1 - Can take control of faster cars.
Level 2 - Can take control of a tank.
Level 3 - Can take control of a robot.
  • Invincible - Player can render themselves invincible to attacks for a short time.
Level 0 - Cannot be done.
Level 1 - Can only be done for a very low amount of time, its pricy (40 gas/sec)
Level 2 - Can be done for longer. (30 gas/sec)
Level 3 - Player is a hacker wink.gif (20 gas/sec)
  • Smoke Bomb - Player can release a smoke bomb in which enemies close by get their HP set to a percentage. It is single consumption and expensive.
Level 0 - Cannot be done.
Level 1 - HP goes to 90%
Level 2 - HP goes to 85%
Level 3 - HP goes to 80%
Side note: This may not seem like much, but when you are against agents, it'll be worth it!
  • Heal - Player can set one players HP up slightly. This is useful for near death players, and is VERY expensive.
Level 0 - Cannot be done.
Level 1 - Can heal to 10%
Level 2 - Can heal to 20%
Level 3 - Can heal to 30%
  • Armor - Increases your resistance to damage.
Level 0 - Nothing.
Level 1 - 2 armor ups.
Level 2 - 2 additional armor ups.
Level 3 - 2 additional armor ups.
  • Weapons - Increases your damage.
Level 0 - Nothing.
Level 1 - weapon up.
Level 2 - additional weapon up.
Level 3 - additional weapon up.
  • Hacker - Can find alternate routes through buildings or hack for month smile.gif
Level 0 - Can't do it.
Level 1 - Can only hack ATMs for money.
Level 2 - Can hack and find alternate routes for players to follow.
Level 3 - Can hack and put security systems on his/her side.

UPGRADES
These are one time things you get, then you got em forever. Anyone can have as many as they want.
  • Sight - Player permantly has a map revealer centered around them. This allows them to see on higher ground, and see farther. It isn't effective inside of buildings and out of the matrix.
  • Operator Skills - When a player decides they want to be an operator, they can overlook, and see what the player sees. Thats it. (in Easy mode, they can already see the other players regardless) Upgrading this will allow you to see the entire matrix (not inside buildings) and allow you to guide players to find each other, avoid agents and find exits.
  • Lock picker - There are certain areas of the map that have locked doors and what not. Some hold exits, money for all players and sometimes secrets! Its an expensive skill that may require all the players to help defend you (you'll be weaker because you got less money for other skills and upgrades tongue.gif)
DIFFICULTIES
This is how the different difficulties work (chosen by the one at the beginning of the game)
Easy - Players have shared vision with each other all the time. Have many abilities. There aren't as many enemies being spawned on the map.
Normal - Players cannot see each others view! (must depend on the Operator if player is an operator happy.gif). Normal abilities. Lots of enemies being spawned on the map.
Hard - Players cannot see each others view. Limited skills. A hell frig load of enemies being spawned on the map! Utter suicide!

HOW DO I LOSE/WIN?
Everyone loses if:
  • "The One" dies
  • There are no players remaining!
You lose if
  • (If you are a player, not the one) Your unit dies
Everyone wins if
  • At the end of the game, "the one" beats agent smith (powerful now) and players secessfully defend Zion.
HOW IS THE MAP DIVIDED
The map is divided into 3 "acts" each "act" represents one of the matrix movies. I haven't thought up names for them all, just the first one (credits to Tazzy and Shadow Paladin)
ACT I - RISE OF A HERO
ACT II - RELOADED?
ACT III - REVOLUTIONS?
(ones with ?, please help me think up a name if you've seen the movies smile.gif)

Yes that was long. And thats it!

Now please suggest additional Upgrades and skills.

Girl: Action -- Kiss

Effect: Double HP and allow direct upgrade to level 3 bullet time.

Nah just kidding around wink.gif
Looks perfect with me. Don't make it too hard either!

NAH I'm just kidding again happy.gif
Make it as hard as possible! No normal noobs battle.net people out there will play your map anyway; only 1337 people comming on SEN.

GO FOR IT MIKE!! I believe in you biggrin.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-04-11 at 22:21:47
New idea: "Easy" difficulty will be generally an easier playing feild for n00bs. However, the skill "lockpicking" will be locked, no player as the "operator" and no funny bloopers at the end during the credits wink.gif

Hows that paladin? It'll encourage players to try the difficulter levels, but still be good for the newbies out there.

Yes, that's a perfect idea. If you can pull it out nicely; it'll encourage people to play the map again. At least that's what I do with video games wink.gif

(####ing Metroid Prime hehe)

The whole point of the "skills" and "upgrades" is exactly this. To make everyone want to play it again.

One game you can have a stelthy sniper (focus on hacking, invincible, sight, armor and summon plus be a Terran Ghost as your character).

And the next game you can have a war machine (focus on bullet time, weapon ups, Vehicle Control, and Smoke Bomb plus choose a marine at the beginning).

You can have a mix of all of them, or specialize with your fellow players. The possibilities are endless!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SpaceBoy2000 on 2004-04-11 at 23:46:44
You know, the first thing I'm going to do is start it on Normal, and become an operator. I mean, I'd rather fly flying futuristic vehicle getting shot at than running around getting shot at.

You ARE adding the flying ship, right? And maybe even heading up to broadcast locations and stuff. You know, operator work.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-04-12 at 00:21:19
No, you dont fly the ship. I remember the first Matrix RPGish thing, and flying the ship was a requirement - and boring as hell.

Operator is an option, not a requirement. If a player wants to be an operator, then doesnt want to be later, they dont have to be. They can plug emselves into the matrix anytime!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2004-04-12 at 00:29:12
Moose is impressed. Yoshi is the operator. Smooth operator. smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-04-12 at 01:01:01
Yoshi: Okay moose, go left at the building.
Moose: Which building?
Yoshi: The big one.
Moose: Okay *walks*
Yoshi: NO! NOT THAT BIG ONE!
Moose: Oh crap! Agents! Argh!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Daigotsu on 2004-04-12 at 03:35:54
LOL good one yoshi! That sounds sweet yoshi best idea I've heard in ages. You will be posting it here right? lol . Oh and can you make it so we can be agents too?
Anyway this sounds really good and I encourage it, so go for it.

P.S. Why not make Act III: "Ultimate Sacrifice", or "A Hero's Death", or "The Power Of One"

Just thoughts.

Oh and one more thing.....what site or wherever on the internet can I get music from the matrix?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ent on 2004-04-12 at 04:47:41
wow this sounds like a very cool map yoshi... as I said in the shoutox: you are some kind of yoshi biggrin.gif

oh and the music rocks...

No, it'll unbalence the game. You dont know how powerful the agents are going to be smile.gif Besides, it'll get boring somtimes, and theres not enough player slots.

QUOTE

I got em all from peer 2 peer software (namely, a software called Warez)

Its not illegal in canada for me to download music, so I can say that happy.gif

BTW, My map features ALL the best pieces of music featured in the movies.

I present to you all, the Chateau! (for those who dont know, its in The Matrix Reloaded (movie #2) where neo takes all the swords and faces the French dudes gaurds)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Daigotsu on 2004-04-12 at 22:25:33
Lol if it's not so hard to ask can you post the music.....? If not, oh well.
Nice chateau plz continue to post pictures.

What were you saying about how strong the agents are? Just a thought.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Nozomu on 2004-04-12 at 22:50:51
You should make it so that a random player gets to be "The One", and you don't know which player it is until they awaken or whatever. That would be badass.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-04-12 at 23:11:47
But too unlike the movie, IMO.
Here's name suggestions for Act1/2(I know they're stupid, but meh'):
II: Alpha's Omega
III: Opening of Hell's Gates(or some such)

Thx happy.gif I just tested it, the ramp and everything works great. I'll make a new topic next and start updating pictures in there.

What were you saying about how strong the agents are? Just a thought.

Stages of the game:
Normal agents: Nearly impossible/very hard to beat in the beginning. Middle game its "possible" to beat them in groups. End they're slightly easier (but in more numbers). In act 2 when the one is powerful, he can pick em off like flies. I havent decided what unit regular agents will be.

Smith: Downright impossbile at first. In act 2, smith is easy. Oh wait! Hes found a way to copy himself. Big trouble for the regular players (they will have to depend on the one, they cannot take all the smiths, its impossible!). At the end of the game, smith will be uberized. Not impossible, but the players must defend zion long enough for the one to beat him. Smith is represented by zealots.

Reminds me of The thing. This wont happen tongue.gif

Mainly because players will only play to be the one. When a player becomes the one, it makes it seem like its the desirable thing to be. In reality, its not. The players are pretty fun too. The can be developed with skills, the one cannot as much. Plus the one cannot be the operator, or will not be able to get some abilities. Players can spit up into groups and take a building through different routes as the one just goes in a kicks everyones ass wink.gif. Besides, the one will suck in act 1. He will depend on the players to defend him.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SpaceBoy2000 on 2004-04-13 at 00:20:06
Hmm...Maybe you should put on the map that the One isn't for newbies. If he's really weak in the beginning, then lots of people would drop out because... "The One is so weak...this map sucks!" and stuff like that.

Of course, if you intend for it to be more like a private map among friends instead of a popular public map then disregard this post.

Well, at least I can become an all seeing operator. I wanted a ship (though yes, it would be pretty boring for the most part...)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-04-13 at 01:17:05
Good idea. Because if you are the one and you die, end of game tongue.gif

Hmm little problem there eh yoshi?

How bout in easy mode for newbies why not add it so "The One" can get a couple better things then in normal and hard.

Like some cheap abilities that make the game slightly easier for them or something.
