Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Gender Identity & Gender Roles
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2005-07-17 at 20:21:56
The start of gender roles lies in the common physical traits of women and males. In a majority, at the start of humanity, man was commonly the stronger sex. This meant men were forced to assume the roles of physical labor. However, there were still other jobs to be tended to, and these physical tasks could often be exhausting and time consuming. Thus, women were required to take up these remaining tasks. Since the men were away, women were also forced to tend to children, if any. Now, this started the concepts of masculine and feminine. These preset gender roles, although sometimes changing, and with exception, have been in effect for multiple millennia, and have only started to lose their grip in the past two hundred years. Still, the assumption of "girliness" being physically weak and the guise of normality remains prominent. Discuss here if you support or oppose gender roles, and how they stand in the 21st century.

I don't really give a poo.gif about gender roles. If a woman can be as good a soldier as a man can, so be it. If a man can be as good a babysitter as a woman can, so be it.

I use "girliness" not as a physical insult. If you call a girl a censored.gif or a censored.gif , she'll actually be hurt and maybe even cry. If you tell a guy he's an censored.gif , he'll laugh and insult you back. I think women are more emotionally weak...but thats just in the women I know.

The best answer is "I don't care".

Good job with that spam there. If you don't care, why bother posting? I just posted this because I think that it isn't relevant in a world where you can make thousands of dollars by working on a computer game at a desk, typing up code for hours. The need for boys to prove themselves as masculine is the cause of school shootings, the reason that there are no school shootings, (that I have read of), that were performed by girls. It's still very relevant, if you don't care, then GO AWAY.

Well its like I said, girls are more emotional, they would rather commit suicide than kill 7 other people along with themselves...hmm, I'd like to see the male/female ratio of suicides, I'll go look that up.

EDIT: With one exception (China), in all countries the male rates are higher than the female rates.

I think they're counting males killing others along with themselves because that still counts as suicide

Umm, we're talking about suicide, this is a serious matter. Don't come in here spamming your hate. 'Emo' is a type of music, music cannot want something. Please be more clear.

cool1.gif Personally, my experience tends to reveal men as less intelectual than women. Men are always trying to impress women, as taught by their mate-seeking instincts, and because of such as very rash in the majority of their actions. There are more men in my gifted class, yet the women all have much higher GPA's. Yet, truth be told, women are naturally physically weaker than men. Though, once again, there are always expections to every rule.

Just my opinions, thrown into the mix of tainted topics. (Allieteration cool1.gif )

I find women to be more emotionally weak too. Its easier to make a woman cry than a man, there are exceptions though.

Women throw themselves at men as much as we try to impress them.

BTW - I don't think 3 words makes it alliteration
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Shapechanger on 2005-07-21 at 03:02:49
Actually, 3 words is the minimum.

And you've got me on the emotional part. I find that to be true.
