Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Doodading

OK, I've seen recently and in the past people working with doodads like they do terraining. The fuse, and make new ones, or they just mess with them and make them something to use or play around with in SC. I havn't seen MUCH of this around here, so I would like to introduce it. Here, in case you don't know what I am talking about, I'll post some examples. Post yours here, too! smile.gif
I've mostly seen people do trees, pillars, and rocks. So I would start with that.
Then, try to think of your own ideas!

All of us at the Terrain board are familiar with the term 'Blocky', right?
Well, for Doodading, I've heard:

Shifty
When the Doodads are off center, laggy, crash-bound, etc.

There is also:

Transparent
Obviously, when the doodads are walk-throughable.

Yeah with some person, can't remember who made an apple tree with the Zerg Vespene Sacks

Doodading Simple Tutorial

This is how I did my first Doodad.

First, open up StarForge, or another program like that.
The usual StarCraft campaign editor will probablly not work with most jobs.
Use any Pallet you want, different Pallet's for different sprites, sprite colors, etc., but make the starting Terrain Null if you can. This makes it easier to place Terrain where doodads and sprites are placed.
Then, make a small, maybe 7 by 7 block of any Terrain, preferably something walkable.
After this, open up the doodad/sprite Layer and on the block of Terrain, place any tree.
Then, over that tree, place another different one or one slightly to the side.
Keep repeating this until you are satisfied. (Not to much or SC will crash.)

Yeah, that would be awesome. Maybe an OJ Tree for Player 5's Eggs would work.

Here's a bot I made:

I did the apple tree first, in a thread where people were suggesting locations and items. The apple tree was a joke, but I delivered.

Camo-Bunker!
(Those Zerg didn't see this coming.)
I checked the 'Blocks View' on the Bushes, too.

ADDITION:
Here are some Pillars.

The pillars look a little wierd but cool, and the camo-bunker would have no use against comp but looks ok

Yeah but what about the human players.... lol They would be stumped if there were more surrounding Doodads around that little spot, other than that the little camo area would be to noticable all by itself in the middle of nowhere.

Omg That bunker is completely invisable. In any game that would be the best spot to build a bunker. I mean, those 1000 Bushes on that 1 spot completely hide the bunker.

liKE omG! We know how to use sprites, thanks.

Doodads consist of terrain and SOMETIMES sprites. Not ONLY sprites.

r those pictures from game? It might look differently in game...

WTf is this... This doesn't have anything to do with doodads... Everything you have show us have been pure sprites... I have not seen one doodad...

I use SCMDraft 2 and place the doodads when I think they are placed good i convert them to terrain and place some more on other places of the map

I agree happy.gif . That would work well against human players with added bush sprites.

That Camo bunker is an interesting concept, especially if you can't see it until you're right next to it....I smell a new map in the making....tongue.gif
