Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Smog

Well, our class had a discussion with our math teacher a few weeks ago about smog (Yes, I know it's random, but we only had 2 days of school left biggrin.gif ). It's all over Japan, and it's beginning to develop in Taiwan and probably in all major cities, and it's the only reason why it's getting hotter and hotter everyday. Some people can't take intense heat and are probably going to die eventually from dehydration.

What do you think about this and do you think we can stop smog from developing?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-07-19 at 09:48:41
I really hope it doesnt reach me.. i can take intense cold not heat..
But its inevitable. Unless all the governments in the world close down all smog producing factories and find something to dispell massive quantities of smog.
we die unless it is stopped or we go underground, or another planet. sad.huh..sly.gif

If I knew a little more about this disease called smog, Then maybe I could tell you if we could stop it, But it is most likely we can, If it isnt a cancer disease, Or something we already can't cure, Then it is most likely we will, And we can.

Um.. wtf? Smog is what's produced by factories, those billowing clouds of smoke that come out of those towers are harmful chemicals that destroy the Ozone, increasing UV rays and destroying the earth's shielding from the sun, making it progressively hotter. UV rays are why you were sun block, since they can, and will, give you skin cancer from long periods of exposure. Also, tanning booths also give you cancer, or so I believe, (or hope, since tanning beds are incredibly stupid as with anyone who uses them).

Humanity greed will destroy us all most likely unless...we move to a new planet or go back to the stone age ermm.gif

Smog = Teh Suck. Luckily in Boston, teh sea wind blows it away!

Well eventully the smog will turn our rain in to acid, and more and more people will become asma attackers. But do you really think the goverment is gonna stop this polution. I think not. The reason i think not is because they are always thinking about money and not for the human race. Ever seen the goverment try to stop the rain forest from bein cut down in south america. They found the cure to aids. But the goverment wouldn't let the continue their studys. Because they wanted to build a road and they did. Some goverment that we have huh. All around the world smog gets worse and worse. Even they scientist are sayin that the globle warming is raisin to its high every year. It Raises 1 degree higher each year. And to follow on golbal head it melts the glasers in the north. With the ocean each year it raises to half an inch each year. Yes smog is effectin every thing that the world has to offer us. Our air, our oceans, rain, wind and the earth that we stand on. But your wondering how it can effect the ground. Ill explain. Well such as in big cites the smog is high as you all now. Well what the smog does is that is polutes the skys and turns the rain in to small droplets of acid. And when the acid hits the ground it burns holes in our building polutes our farms , our water. Another thing that smog does is gives us a major skin problems. espessialy in the big cities again. Smog can cause the following skin problems. Acme, irratation, bowles, greasy sweat, dry skin, and in some cases intence mumps.

so think about it all. Just wanted to state all i know about polution of smog.

We (Humans) account for less than 2 percent of all (global) pollution. So we can't blame anything on ourselves. One volcano eruption can produce more 'smog' as you call it, than a heavy industry can in a year.

What we need to do is take advantage of the nuclear, wind, water, and the sun, for christ's sake. Those are overabundant and we dont use them!

Well, we do have some dams, wind generators and solar panels but apparently not enough... ermm.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wilhelm on 2005-07-19 at 16:53:09
I've heard that wind generators are actually very inefficent, and ultimately just waste materials, money, and time. Thermal power all the way!

All your oil are belong to U.S.

True.Dat (Wind), but it is clean. GO NUCLEAR CRдP!

That is because we have not found any way of producing nearly enough energy from those stations. The problem is not how much of them there are, it is the quality at which they operate. The reason oil and gass does so well, is that we have developed ways to get the most out of each part of it, there has not been as much developement on the newer energy sources.

We're not going to die because of smog, we're going to die because of all other pollutions. The ozone layer protects us from radiation. Do you know how thick this 'last defense' is? 3 millimeters, thats like the height of a mousepad.

I really dont believe this is true.. though it may be.. but even then, we made the smog stay here and not.. umm.. well.. go away..
We need.. um.. less chlorofleurocarbons or something like that.. they break down the ozone layer. Without it the ozone layer would slowly regenerate (like that guys shields --> w00t.gif)
Then we need to get more electric using cars, not gas.. close down factories that get energy from nuclear sources and fossil fuels...
Build more solar energy plants.. try to somehow get energy from meat... or dirt..
(that was a bit sarcastic)
Of course if it stops me from being with my computer, im sad sad.gif
If all of this is done fast, everything can be rebuilt, but the earths human population will go into a massive depression for possibly a century, it will lower the worlds population by about 2 billion (hopefully) (as long as its not me, i dont want to die)
We should continue to be in depression until the ozone layer is back to normal, though i doubt the government will do that if it does anything else i said..
Then we dont build any fossil fuel or nuclear power plants, use only electric cars, and dont kill any animals in nature, and earth will be quite a good place to live
happy.gif

Japan is developing electric cars that can go at 100km/h in four seconds! But it's too costly right now so they're trying to find a way to bring down the price. The car is literally filled with batteries and I think it has a solar panel on it...I can't remember exactly what they're putting on them but it looks cool cool1.gif

Mankind is slowly destroying it-self, We have nearly blown away our Ozone layer... Once that's gone we scewd.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-07-21 at 10:08:38
Its not destroying itself that slowly lol.. the past 50 years is what nearly destroyed the ozone layer. Thats fast. And a car filled with batteries isnt what we need. We need a car that can be 100% dependant on solar energy and can save enough power for rainy/cloudy/stormy days. (or smog covered...sly.gif)
Batteries waste the earths resources big time. I dont know what, but i once took a apart a battery..
Batteries use some now rare chemicals/something else (i read is somewhere, i dont have details)

I heard making solar panels and getting like the pure silicon needed is also expensive and hard to find.

Also about the wind power, I think eventually it would pay off in the long run, wouldn't the only cost needed would be the initial building of it? Then just let it create electricity and it will pay for itself, unless general upkeep of the wind turbine would be too much sad.gif

Same thing, only the initial cost is high after that (unless ure a bad driver) u dont pay anything, well unless it breaks, and it gets all the energy for us. Its the only way 2 go
