For seven to nine years now the minimum wage has NOT increased, while the price of living has increased
time line (7-9 years ago to today)

The reason why Republicans dont want to increase the minimum wage is because if it is increased they say it will lower the profit of the business and thus have many layoffs of the lower workers to compensate the loss of profit.
The Democrats say that though the Executives will lose money and not be able to spend like they used to and cost the country revanue millions of dollars, they say the common people with a higher wage would compensate that in the billions!
I chose to increase it because a whole bunch of Republicans are rich people and there choice seems so biased
Apology:
For any of you Ralph Nadar enthusiasts I apologize for my third option I did not mean to give the impression that I think he is an indecisive leader and thus an incompetent leader. I chose him for the simple reason that he is an independant party that has run for the presidency for quite awhile now.
I believe you should also apologize for your putting political party names next to the options. Ever think that republicans might want to increase minimum wage, or democrats might want to keep it where it is?

Uh..... The minimum wage has gone up... It WAS 5.05 a while ago, and now it is 5.12ish.....
well yes, some do but the majority wants what i have put and we all know majority comes before the minority
The minimum wage should be removed.
Anyone who thinks that price fixing wages can have a positive impact doesn't understand economics at all.

I don't know much, but could you explain what would happen if minimum wage was removed?
Removing minimum wage would be mindboggling to conprehend as for how it would affect the economy. Without doubt the unemployment rate would plummet as companies could then afford to lower they wages of their employees. Then again, there would be many people who would protest against it because they want to retain their paycheck's size when they really don't deserve it all. Actually, now that I think about it, removing minimum wage could very well be a great thing for our economy. It would cause hundreds of factories, bussinesses, and the like to appear because they could then afford to hire people for menial jobs.
It could very well restore the sense of industry that made America great, lost over the last century to China. I fully support removing minimum wage.
Of course, being an open-minded individual, I realize that I may have missed something vital from my point of view. Please correct me, I preffer the right answer over mine, provided it's wrong.
I think if you removed minimum wage it would just take some time for like everything to get adjusted, like maybe for a while many companies would start paying people very little, until many people quit and they are forced to raise pay, something like that.
Yes, you see why it is so mindboggling? It is increasingly difficult to predict the future in such areas.
When minimum wage is removed, here is what would happen:
First of all, nothing would happen to any jobs that pay over the minimum wage, for obvioius reasons.
For jobs whose wages
are propped-up by the minimum wage, wages would gradually decrease, and employment would gradually increase (when a price drops, demand increases).
What would really be best about it is the fact that so many unskilled/untrained people would be able to find employment. Before, if a man wasn't a very good worker (let's say his work would earn a company an average of $6 per hour), no company wants to hire him because they would be losing money considering the added costs of dealing with an employee. Without a propped-up wage, he is able to find employment, because companies can set a price that allows them
and him to reap profit.
edit: And Nader is for an even higher minimum wage than the Dems...

My question is how would you pay people if there is no minimum...? Set a steady wage?
Wages would set themselves as they do today. Most wages aren't even related to the minimum wage (because most jobs pay above it anyways).
If you work hard, you go up. Screw this stuff about the unemployment rate. There are ways to circumvent that system, and if you aren't ready to put in the effort or risk to do that, you don't diserve more than five and a quarter.
That was harsh.

but I still hold by it.
In my opinion, i dont care.
I am just happy that I'm getting 7 dollars an hour for my job as a bagger/carryout in some big grocery store in my part.

Because that's what most republicans believe.
also ma i was going to get a job at a grocery store and do the same thing.. infact i have the application next to me all filled out i just have to sign it... but i dont want to pass it in now since the summer is almost over...
My sister gets 2.25 an hour, so shut your traps.
Or she could be working part time. Minimum Wage doesn't apply to people who work part time.
Yeah, waitress. She gets tips (Not that it's much, people dont tip well, in general)
PS: Do not ever go corporate. They care not for you.
