Staredit Network -> Portal News -> Xtra Editor 2.6 Fix
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-04-13 at 21:48:10
Apparently theres a fix for Xtra edit 2.6 that wasn't advertised much in the community, so we'll do the advertising here biggrin.gif

StealthyDeath has just submitted a Xtra editor 2.6 fix that he created. Nobody really knows about it (not even me!), it was posted on Starcraft.org and done nothing with.

Anyways, this will make many mappers happy (namely (U)Bolt_Head wink.gif) and most of those with 800x600 rezzies. Although I'm a 1024x768 user, I would of hoped for a version to keep the window sizes sad.gif

UPDATE:
Correction: This version is still not 800x600 compatible. Sorry bout that.

It's 800x600 compatible, just the menus almost take up the whole screens.whistling.gif.

If you'll like the menu sizes returned to normal, Yoshi, just can ask me I'll resize it back for you. If you want me to customize it a bit like in the screen shots with the menus at the top, I can do that too.

Personally, I love this happy.gif I think you da man smile.gif

However, theres been requests all over the place for an 800x600 compatible xtra 2.6. You would make a lot of people happy.

I'm sure a few members will come in here and give ya a few suggestions.

I guess I can make one to be more 800x600 compatible. I'll just need some suggestions on how large should they be. smile.gif

I'm Rather Sceptical about downloading a "update" as the site would put it. Anyways I went to www.starcraft.org to look at it myself. first off i found this list.
  • Smaller trigger and briefing menus for those at 800x600
  • Unit Tree area enlarged in Player Settings.
  • Modified Player Settings and Unit Properties menus.
  • Larger Dropdown and Specific Unit menus.
  • Fixes the Addon bug in 2.6 and some bugs in the special mode that did not display all units as 1 pixel.
And this page http://www.starcraft.org/scums/SD_SCXEUpdateFix.asp It features several screen shots that don't say much for me and the 4th one doesn't work.

Then of course the page says this
QUOTE
StarCraft X-tra Editor Update and/or Fix
by StealthyDeath

The fix download is to fix any bugs that are present in StarCraft X-tra Editor 2.6. The Update download, updates some of the menu boxes for larger dropdown menus, larger trigger and briefing menus for those with 2.5, (smaller trigger and briefing menus for 2.6) and some other stuff.

If you use version 2.5, you can just download the update file, since 2.5 doesn't really have any bugs at all. The fix however does update the unit trees so you may place the units that can crash the game.
...

So there is two files unlike what yoshi mentioned, and I'm not going to download ither of them.

First off I'm quite happy with the size of my trigger window, its not like any of the triggers are larger than the window, horizontally anyways. (I guess these people never thought of having sizing handles on it instead.)

Expanded unit tree, also says "The fix however does update the unit trees so you may place the units that can crash the game." Not like you actually need to crash the game, its not even a proper mapping technique, lastly it's not like the independent command center or goliath turrets or what not are actually needed to do that in the first place. There is no point upgrading to include these forgotten useless units.

Modified Player Settings and Unit Properties menus I don't know what it is and I don't really care I'm sure its nothing worthwhile, just something that will likely piss me off.

Then it says "Larger Dropdown and Specific Unit menus." That sounds like a good thing but I always skip to the item i need anyways bye using the keyboard. Not worth dealing with the other crap or reinstalling 2.5 after you realize the update is censored.gif , just for this.

Lastly i wonder about this "Fixes some bugs in the special mode that did not display all units as 1 pixel." I'm guessing that means doodad doors, distruction webs, scanner sweeps and such are actually selectable. Yeah thats a good thing too (if thats what it means) but I figured out how to do it anyways.

If you attually wanted to make a good mod to X-tra you would consider fixing it so one version doesn't remove units placed in another. Or scrap the system compleatly and do things like SCM Draft and Starforge already have. Althouh I can't expect much out of modded StarEdit code.

Anyways, Yoshi hope you were satisfied with my "attack"

Blah Blah Says in a Suicidal Insanity voice"its impossible to enable resizing of the trigger windows :/"

Yeah well . . . Y . . . You . . . You suck.
And nothings wrong with the trigger window size in the first place. And i don't use 800x600 ither.

I'm using X-Tra 2.5 and my trigger window size is fine. It has to be editable, because in my other StarEdit versions its much smaller.

The unit that wasn't placing at its smallest also was the Queen's Nest.

I'm probably not going to update, simply because I'm on 800x600 and I have no problems with 2.5.

By resizeable I mean the users can resize it. Apparently you can only edit the abosolute size but you can't put sizing handles on it according to SI.

Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Besides, I have better ways to crash your StarCraft. uberwoot.gif

een if you can put resize handles on the corner, it wouldn't resize the child controls to fit the new window, that requires adding a WM_SIZE handler to the dialog box message loop.

As I said bolt, you'd be the person I'd most expect to be involved in this. Don't worry happy.gif

I found this fix useful, of course not everyone believes that. StealthyDeath did a good job with fixing something that was broken for a while. Yes, there is room for improvement. If we make a list, I'm sure he'll see if its possible.

I only decided to put it out to fix some bugs that I saw should be fixed. I know not everyone would like it, but it can be used for those that aren't experienced as someone such as (U)Bolt_Head. The update file is just something I did when I was messing around with ResHack in my spare time.

Anyone with at very little basic editing skills can 100% reproduce the files I've posted.

I know that a lot of the more experienced map makers would consider this useless, but I consider it to be pretty good as I'm not as good at map making as I am mod making.

You can always hope I guess.

Im sure some people will find it usefull, not me, but some people. And it seems to me you just made a mod of it to satisfiy some people that were upset with some of the settings. I can't agrue against that so good job. smile.gif
