I've noticed that you will sometimes be put into wierd Forces when you enter a game. Eg. I made Force 1 for P1 and P2 but when you enter the game you automaticlly start in Force 2 which is for observers (P3-P8).
Is the order of entering forces due to the number of availible slots (the force with more slots you go in first. Force 1 had two slots and Force 2 had six) or something else?
I think SC tries to balance it out. Like when you have 2 for Force 1 and 6 for Force 2, it will try to do a 1:3 kind of placement.
What does it matter? The player could simple move to the other force in the game.

I was just wondering, for curiosity's sake.
I think the players are sorted out so that both forces would be balanced. So if there were two teams of 4, players entering the game will alternate which force they end up in. Now for a force of 2 and a force of 6, I'm assuming most players will wind up in the 2nd force because starcraft assumes the first force will have less players but more "power". Don't take my advice though, I'm just using logic. Basically what legacy said...
I know I tested this some time ago, but I remember that if you change the order of the players in each force.
Say force 1 has players 4,5,6 and force 2 has 1,2,3 that the units will place differently than normal.
Don't quote me on that though, as it was well over two years since I tested that. I can't really remember what I did, I just remember that I made it so everyone joined force 2.
Legacy is close, it tries to balance teams fair, but like Sniper said, you can switch anyways (unless you playing tvb melee, then host has to change u)
