QUOTE(Tyler)
Moving you tonight, I'll sync up the db this time so there isn't any overlap where posts vanish.  You're by far the largest site on that machine, so this is affecting you more than most - I apologize.  Shouldn't be having to do all these moves either, but I want to get your site stabilized.

I asked Tyler for some updates on the server, from today's recent downtimes. Here's the response. I wasn't hoping to be moved to a different box. This one seems a hell of a lot faster... although the downtime wasn't going away after the new box move.

Anyways... thank you for your patience (or lack thereof... shows you care! It was annoying though).

Maybe things wouldn't be so bad with Senv5...

Senv5... senv5... where did my ethusasim for that go? mellow.gif
Maybe it will come back soon (indirectly giving you two updates in one).

SEN v5 has no forums yet. Still want to switch to it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-07-30 at 03:29:19
And you can't use the DLDB or tutorials, or even post new topics. Only thing you can do is shout.

Well warhammer would want to switch wink.gif tongue.gif

I don't mind if we switch to SENv5 right now, no forums and no DLDB, it's a Staff member's paradise with no work to do and no complaints.
We'll just keep contanct via B.net and/or MSN.

Well SEN didn't seem to have downtime today or did it? I wasn't here the whole day but it seems pretty faster than normal.

The move didn't quite work, we'll be moving you to a machine of an identical config w/ even less load.  You won't notice any performance decreases, maybe increases.

I don't know when this will be.

Aww, i <3 u 2. wub.gif

Was it just me or did we experience more downtime? It seems like the server is going down left and right now.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MapUnprotector on 2005-07-31 at 15:10:03
Yea, just a few minutes ago when I first tried to get to SEN it was down, but then after like a minute or two it worked.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kashmir on 2005-07-31 at 21:34:52
ya today for me it went down like 3 or 4 times.

BTW devilisk.... FPS Doug is the man!

The posts telling everyone how you experianced lag, etc, is pretty useless...ermm.gif
I'm just saying: IP had his examples so he knows we all get server problems, so he's fixing it. (Well, Tyler is)

Our hits have nearly doubled on some days because of DK's new discovery. Poor Tyler sad.gif

Wouldn't that give him more money though?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2005-08-03 at 14:59:57
It's a fixed monthly rate. IP doesn't have to pay him based off hits or anything, he pays him a fixed amount and gets a fixed amount of features.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-08-03 at 15:30:04
I know that. But by the sudden surges, wouldn't that produce money for the server? I don't understand this kinda stuff very well.

You only get money if you have ads... The advertisers pay you for you to get see their ads or to click on them.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-08-06 at 12:02:02
Last I checked, SEN didn't have any advertisments, so I've always assumed that Yoshi and IP and folks pay Tyler to keep the site up out of the goodness of their hearts (and I don't think it really costs that much money).

DONEATE!

$345 surely lasts.

You donated 100!!!

Last I checked Puni had the most with 75.

Well, thank you for supporting such a great website and keeping it ad free.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2005-08-10 at 06:59:27
Ads are a big joke anyway, considering the age of people visiting this site, the chances that after clicking on an ad they'd actually buy something are about 1%, even if its relevant. Still you could probably run this website with one small ad on the side, it would present a tiny revenue that could help you lot out.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-08-12 at 14:54:01
Maybe an ad to a website like Newegg.com or Pricewatch.com? I think they might generate some money.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-08-12 at 16:48:03
I hate ads. tongue.gif

Puni took his money back with some credit fraud protection... plus it costed ME $10 as a fee for his actions... plus an extra $5 or something for the orginal transfer fee.
I didn't take it off the donations page.
He practically stole money in that regards.
