I'm not going to censored.gif about the words you chose to censor, but can we at least have a decent filter? I think a emoticon should suffice, not these random words that make the post much less intelligible. It makes .. pretty much everything harder to read, instead of a red dot that tells us someone wasn't happy.

And can we please say a word that rhymes with pitch? wink.gif

well can we at least lighen up with the censors.
can we have a censor exactly like tv does? it just makes it more simpler.

I'm sure that our FCC censors are different in America than they are in Canada, which is where one of our administrators live. So I don't think that's a solution.

I say replace it with "beep" or something. The emocons annoy me.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by warhammer40000 on 2005-07-30 at 13:55:22
Beep or something like F*** and S***.

Urgh.. its fine as it is..stop swearing.. stop complaining about filters.. this is like the 30th topic about them

This isnt about WHAT is censored, but what he censores with. He keeps changing our words to completely different ones. just make it Beep.

Rexy just got back, so she didn't know.

Warhamma hit the nail on the head: Black might as well be censored to white while he's at it.

What i reallly want to know is how does
Bas**** (child of unmarried parents) become "wonderful friend"?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2005-08-02 at 21:45:03
That's what I asked once a week or so ago. happy.gif
I think it should just use the asterisk-censor, that way we can atleast see what word the person was using in case it was being used legitamately...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-08-03 at 00:15:59
Your mom is my wonderful friend.

It sounds so much better than having posts swarmed with that same emoticon. It also sounds funny sometimes, turning flaming into humor.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2005-08-03 at 00:21:12
Or turning completely legitmate posts into confusing crap.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-08-03 at 01:02:12
We lowered the censors anyway, but we now suspend people for flame wars, as most have noticed. Things wont be censored unless you truely shouldn't be using those words.

Someone outta wash out your mouths with e-soap.

Can we at least have normal censors?
Unless "We've lowered the censors" means you turned them off or set them straight.

Thank you!

To me, swearing just isn't necessary. I found it humorous when even my using of the word "crap" was censored to a hershey kiss shaped dog poop. Maybe that was overdoing it. But does it make you sound cooler, more intelligent, or more deserving of respect to use those words. Even the letter followed by asterisks isn't necessary, as the word just as easily comes to mind. Some people, like myself might actually prefer an intelligent website without word-use that just screams "I'm ignorant!" Thanks Yoshi for the mature handling of your website.

You should censor a few biggies, and have a list of "warning words" that aren't censored but if a post has more than, say, 5 of them, it gets logged in a "potential flame war" database for the mods to examine.

Planned for v5, I think.

What if you're posting song lyrics, or quoting another member? Or, if the script doesn't check anything inside quotes, you post your flame-war inside of a quote to get away withit? There are too many loopholes, but I really like the idea. laugh.gif

900th post. 100 more, right?

OFFT: For being around so little, you get a lot of posts Rexy tongue.gif

ONT: Ignore things in quotes, true you can evade, but thats what staff is for, no?

The idea is if you use the badwords without bad purpose, nothing happens.

"To me", using swear words doesn't "scream "I'm ignorant""- all swearing means to me is that you happen to be a bit inarticulate; but only so when people use them for every other word in every other sentence. In fact, it would probably make more sense to say that using the term "fecal matter" is more condemnable than "crap" or the 'it'-rhyming variant, because it's using a word that is unnecesarily long in place of one that means the exact same thing, and is just arbitrarily chosen to be considered "bad" by some people.

Censoring insults to "wonderful friend" is humor? You've got a sick sense of humor, Yoshi.

Its halarious. I was planning on making them all into "blam", but "wonderful friend" is so much more funny to see.

Well, you're the admin...
But couldn't you atleast choose a different wording for it? "Wonderful friend" sounds... odd. I don't know why.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-08-03 at 15:48:59
Because it makes you sound queer?

I dun care bout the filter no more. It doesn't matter.
