Power, by my definition, is simply the capability to influence something, including yourself.

Are you referring to in terms of energy? Or are you referring in terms of prestige and ranking and position?

I'm assuming the latter, so as stated, basically overall influence.

How was I spamming? He asked me what power I was talking about so I told him. He didn't say we couldn't talk about that kind of power.

If you're talking about power as in spiritual energy, i'm not even going to post because of last time.

Those were examples of things power can do, not what you think power is. And don't bother with the "there's no actual difference, it's all arbitrary" crap. My post said, in once sentence, what I believe power to be- you've stated, in several sentences, several examples of power or its use.

I would define Power as Work/Time, a scalar quantity measured in Watts.

It comes from the fact that people want things.

that dosnt tell me jack. infact i will label that as spam. not everyont wants something when someone has power over them.

not all rich people have power. infact, the only rih people that have power are drug lords, or celebraties. other than that, there is no power there.....just a bunch of green paper. i just dont get it.

Power over another human is mainly from their wants. The only time when this is not true is when you can physicaly force them to do what you want, simply because they're too weak to resist you effectively.

People use power to obtain what they want, directly or indirectly.
Enlighten me when this doesn't apply.

When people say, "UHHHH...I don't know." they don't know what they want. So its not to obtain what they want becuase they dont know, not directly becuase they don't know, or indirectly.

I'm not saying power is want, I'm saying power over people comes from it.

I think power is how much control you have over something when compared to how much control other forces have over you.

For example: I'm House Manager. Roughly 30 Crew Members are below me; I have power over them. My power is shared with Running Crewhead, Makeup Crewhead, Costume Crewhead, and Technical Director. The Assistant Stage Managers have power over me, as does the Manager and Director.

So, I do not take orders from my equals or below (although for the record I do listen to them when they have something to say), but if an ASM or the Stage Manager tells me something I do it, dammit. The Director is usually too busy doing other things. Therefore, I have three people over me while I have thirty five under me. I have quite a bit of power.

Well, that's half the definition on a pure leadership level. Power is also what someone can do that no one else can do.

As house manager, if I don't want the show to start, I don't open the doors. If I don't want to sell tickets, the theater makes no money. If I do not care about food/drink in the theater, it gets dirty and has to be repaired. I would never do any of that, because then I'd be in trouble with my superiors, but the control to do so is there. If a Stage Manager sees a problem, she can call down and say 'cut, start over' in front of the entire audience. Thus far its never happened. *knock on wood*

I belive power is fear.
If people fear you, you can control them. Fear is the most powerful weapon and the one thing that leaves you vulnerable to others. Thats why blackmail works; thats why anyone can be powerful. We all have fears and secrets and we can all exploit eachother's fears and secrets to aid ourselves. Quite ironic.
That's also why higher archy works. We mostly fear our parent's power over us as we are little. We get scared when we were little and out parents were angry at us. Its the same with work. Most workers fear their bosses. They control the worker's jobs and money, which causes the workers fear.

Power is also skills. The better you are at something the more people you wil defeat. Great skills can make you feared or revered. If you are the smartest peron in the world, everyone will love you. You could probably convince the world to brush with sh!t because you have so much power. Or, if you are an assassin, people will fear you. You might kill them... they hold your life in their hands. I would be scared, wouldn't you?
Power is also money. Since money rules the world, you could do anything if you had enough money. Hire an assassin, buy a city, buy the police... 'Owning' the right people can keep you out of trouble and let you cause as much as you want.

Power could also mean your seed. How many offspring do you have?
The more the better. If you are strong and smart, you will spread your seed amongst many women (no affence to the women) and you have many offspring. Your legacy is also power. The more offspring you have the better your chances of survival and the more likely you will become more powerful. But, that is from a natural view of power.

Power can be defined as many things. Down to the very basics, it is how adapt you are. Camals can survive 2 weeks without water in the desert, most any other animal cant. That gives them power in the desert. A shark lives underwater, humans dont. It gives the shark the power underwater. But, if a shark jump up onto a boat it would die, because we have power over it on land. All animals have different adaptations. The more general they are, the better your survival, the more places you can live, the more crossbreeding you can do, the better your offspring will be.
Power is extremely complicated. Depends on the situation really.
