Do you want the country to research stim cell research? People in other countries except the United States can answer: I want your opinion!
Here are your options:
| Yes, I want to research Stim Cells so people can be cured of illnesses.
| No, I don't want to research Stim Cells because I believe something is wrong here.
| I don't care, really, I don't care if anything happens.
| What? Do you mean like Stim Pack research? Sure! It makes marines go faster!
| What, what is stim cell research?
I'm all for stem cell research, as long as it's not practiced from human babies (maybe miscarriges, but hey, I'm anti abortion)
Oh, It's Stem cell research, not stim.
And why not make this a poll?
Stem Cell research isnt all on human fetus's, most are on other things (Not sure =\ )
Hahaha, this happens way too much on SEN, its STEM cells, not STIM cells. But as for my opinion, I'm for stem cell research all the way, I just don't understand the ethical argument that destroying a blastocyst is murder.
Wow, that would be, like, so cool.
We could make Terran Marines and everything.
I'm for it as long as the fetus is already decesed.
| I don't care, really, I don't care if anything happens.
i want it to be legal but i dont really care if it isnt
There's already been a topic on this with a poll. The fourth option is also silly and shouldn't be included in a serious discussion.
If I remember correctly, side FOR stem cell research won the poll overwhelmingly.

The moral issue is saying that you are killing one to save another, and the aborting of embryos for research purposes are also considered violating the Catholic Christian laws.
But in my opinion, it's more like kill one to save thousands. The ethical debate would have to go into the philosophical angle of "The Values of Life".
Furthermore, what's the use of leaving aborted fetuses to rot? It's more knowledgable to dedicate them to a scientific but also life-saving cause. Not all stem cell research is dependant on fetuses/embryos anyway. The ambylical cord and bone marrows are also sources of stem cells, whilst confronting the moral issue being virtually void.
I support stem cell research all the way. From many arguments the other side sets forward, it's just hard for me to comprehend. I don't consider them irrational, it's just that most of the time is that the argument they propose is defeating the purpose of the argument itself, or simply, too easy to be outweighed through a advantage versus disadvantage ratio comparison.
Yeah, I know this topic has been debated for a while but I've never really engaged myself in the debate.

Really, yes I think stem cell research is fine.StIm cell research would be abused by sports athletes.
StEm cell research would be abused by the people who compulsively cut off their limbs.
I'm for them both!
Rantent, you bring up a valid point. I really need to get into fights I have no hope of winning more often

I go for yes, because then we wont have to use prosthetics as much.
The only arguemet against stem cells is retarded: Kliing a tiny fetus the size of a comma is murder. Wow.
"Well, its a human being! Its more like a big blob of amoebas, but BIG BLOBS OF AMOEBAS ARE HUMAN BEINGS!"
The goddamn baby-thing isn't sentient yet. It cant experience anything, really, so killing it isn't a problem.
Infact, why don't they take the stem cells when they do an abortion? Knock down two problems at once!

Republicans are against both, so it still won't convince them.
Stem Cell Research should be illegal, it's just like playing god, this would definately make a turn for the worse. Rich families are going to pay poor women to get pregnant and have an abortion so that they can get the stem cells from the fetus and help the sick person. What a horrible idea, I can't believe some people want this to be legal, this is almost as bad as cloning.
Wesmic anyone could do that right now, just without getting stem cells from it. Any rich person could pay a woman to get pregnant and get an abortion for no reason, if they wanted. If you paid someone enough money someone would probably do anything you ask them too. Also I'm sure it would be illegal to do that
Also there are different kinds of stem cells such as ones from umbilical cords, so saying all stem cell research is bad just because you take embryonic stem cells from a fetus doesn't mean you should stop ALL research on it.
Also I'm sure you wouldn't be able to use stem cells from just any fetus and have it used in a laboratory for some medical purpose right now. It's still in research and no one is really going to look for stem cells unless they want them to be used for research.
Also from what I've read embryonic stem cells come from early embryos and those cells are pluripotent. Stem cells from a fetus can't turn into as many types of cells. Also I believe scientists use unwanted eggs and stuff from fertility clinics that are frozen and already going to be thrown away, not really aborted fetuses.
Wikipedia has a good article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stem_cellSpecifically the parts about embryonic stem cells.
ADDITION: Also by completely stopping stem cell research you are stopping research about adult stem cells which uses stem cells from adults which is not harmful.
I think the main argument anyway is over the use of embryonic stem cells.
Devilesk speaks the truth.
We our basically killing ourselves with technology. We are defying the basic rules of Nature that has been set down.
edit: nevermind, I don't know what I'm talking about, ignore comment.

Technology isn't the problem, what we do with them is because of morals, not knowledge. Keep an open mind nevertheless, medical science may not have gotten where it is today without someone at one point opening up someone else's dead body, which seems pretty immoral as well.
And they all take for ganted that people are living 46% longer now than 60 years ago.
People are just fearful of new things.
Ooh, I did a little report about this in school. Most stem cells are retrieved from external embryos in petri dishes. Eggs are taken from a woman (eggs that would die anyway in the natural cycle of things), and they are fertilized by scientists. A few days after fertilization (I believe it's called in-vitro fertilization or something close), the stem cells are extracted. At this point the embryo hasn't even begun to differentiate into organ, bone, and muscle tissue - they're all the same cell, like clones.
That's the most efficient way of getting stem cells, and it has nothing to do with aborting fetuses. I guess wesmic is against all medicine, because we're not just letting our immune systems that God gave to us do the work intended for them. Next time you get cancer, why don't you let your immune system do everything?
Our immuensystem can't take it that why alot of ppl are going all the way for Stem cell Research i would love to see a day when AIDS, Cancer Bird flew Virus can be treated so Yes i am all the way with Stem Cell Research.
For those who are against it lets put this in perspective would you sacrifice embryos that have yet to live have no friends and really nothing to lose for one of yours or a loved ones life
If you actually think u will sacrifice yourself you are being naive and delusional
