So, I haven't heard much about anyone managing to change the Terrain in-game using EUDs, other than the fact thats its supposedly for sure possible, anyone have any leads on how this would? (specific leads as to working actually making this work that is...) use complex language if need be, i'll do my best to decipher
I'm not exactly sure, but I think doing that will crash the game.
If it crashed the game, it wouldn't be considered "possible".
You quickly swap someone's computer with another that has different terrain and tell them EUD triggers did it
and assuming that we dont have access to all the other players' hardware?
its really complicated, u have to do pixel from pixel to pixel from pixel to switch terrain pieces, and thats all u can do with the terrain... its still usefull but complicated and i dont know how...

Kindly ask the other person to throw their computer out the window and tell them to buy one without a Fisher Price quality modem/ethernet port.

well, pixel by pixel (well, not really pixel, square by square) is what I was expecting, and it wouldnt be so bad, granted, quite a few triggers, but if its patterned and u have the ability to numerically move locations (also thnx to EUD =D), with a bit of logic it can become fairly easy fairly quickly...
If people finally figure out how to do it I dout people will accually have the time and the patence to make a quality map that has changing terrian.
It woudl be crazy cool if you had a map thatw as all low terrian except for teh terain under yoru unit, which woudl always be high terrain.... permanent 30% dodge!
But, I bet during the time that the pixels are switching, it gives an odd feed and makes it a crash-happy site.
Anyways, that's just my guess, but anyways.. any other ideas for the terrain stuff?
nice 30% dodge idea QUOTE(Toad @ Aug 9 2005, 12:40 AM)

same here, i'm just itching for it lol
Man, I'd make an awesome side scroller game.
No. You can't. It wouldn't download that part of the map, and would all be null or just crash. It won't happen, ever.
And besides, if it WAS possible, people would make porn movies, and starcraft would get an Adult rating?

Well, for one, you couldn't make porn movies because that would take millions of triggers. Alo, there is already porn on starcraft (Sexy Pics).
First off, it would be EXTREMELY hard because of so many triggers. Each square of terrain is 32x32 pixels big. It would take 1024 triggers to change one square terrain.
Of course, if you could find out how to change all of the square with a whole other one then it would be easy and awesome. But I doubt you can do that (who knows though, maybe you can..)
It's not pixel to pixel it's square to square.
I spent some time trying to find the memory locations for the terrain squares. The only spots I was able to come up with after a few hours messing around left me with values that were outside the possible memory locations, so as far as my testing shows, it is impossible. I may have made an error though along the way, but I'm for one giving up on it.
it wouldnt take millions of triggers, just 1 per square, if you just replace the whole screens terrain 10 times a second, but it would be very laggy.
u could probably get a program to auto trigger it so it just resets it that often.
EUD's are dead now anyway, so... bleh..
It would be one action per tile.
It's impossible anyway. It will crash the game because the map did not download that extra terrain.
End of discussion.
You don't know that. As of right now there is no way to change the terrain during the game.
Does anyone know the offset for the terrain data?

huh? thats like saying a game will crash if u create a unit because the map did not download that unit with it... the game has a pre-loaded tile set that it uses for each map, it completely within the realm of possibility...
As far as making animation by changing terrain in game, wouldn't a program like SCPM come out? I don't know, call it SCAM or SCVM? Oh well, I personally think changing terrain in game would result in crashing or freezing Starcraft.
