I have created outlines for two maps. I love both ideas, but they are opposites. One is more of a team tactics type of map like Capture the Flag (although it isn't CTF) and the other is an RPG. I am only willing to commit to one map. Tell me which on piques your interest.
Brief Overview of the Tactics Map
The inspirations are Counter-Strike/Team Fortress... keep in mind it is nothing like the old HL TFC that is floating around B.net. The best way of describing it: think of the map Warpath from the game, Team Fortress Classic. Each team must acquire 5 "flags/beacons" simultaneously - the only thing is, both teams are trying to obtain those same beacons. Each time you acquire one, a switch timer is set and you have 30-60 seconds (this would have to be tested later on for the ideal time) before someone else can steal that location from you, thus you need to hurry and get the other beacons. The classes are are limited in numbers but they will each be created with a balance and purpose.
ie; you have a Scout (zealot) he has speed and detection (passive ability) but his offensive abilities are weak as hell. He is good for evasion and acquiring beacons.
Brief Overview of the RPG Map
The setting of the story is more modern and urban-esque.
I probably spent a bit more time making notes of the plot and character motivations/drives than anything else. Every quest drives the story forward, every ability is connected to the story. You don't just "get a new ability" out of nowhere. Even though it is a game - I try to make things sound plausible. Characters react differently. Civilian A maybe more receptive to Hero A more than Hero B. The dialogue of each character reflect their personalities.
I will probably use an ammo system similar to Kitrina's Outbreak and the S.W.A.T. map. I used Resident Evil (as in "enemies/fodder" only) as the template, but the characters (protagonists/antagonists) and plot are new. The setting does not take place in Racoon City.
