If I make a map with a single EUD trigger that changes a Marine's weapon to a Canister Rifle, and then play the map in Melee mode, and then save a replay: do the Marines have Canister Rifles in the replay? Is that ALL that EUDs do to Melee games?
The replays that I made of standard maps in Melee mode are all corrupted anyway. I played against a comp in a single-player melee match on 1.13 and saved, and it isn't accurate. All of the Team Melee matches that I have played are corrupted in the same way too. What makes a map with EUDs any different?
First of all, a map using EUD triggers is, by definition, Use Map Settings, and if you try to play it on Melee, the changes will not apply.
Secondly, a replay is a recreation of every command/event/trigger in the game in question. Therefore, the EUD triggers would still apply.
Doesn't that mean that ANY map with triggers played in Melee and then saved as a replay will have problems with triggers firing, therefore corrupting the replay? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for a replay to act that way. Or am I misinterpreting your statement?
... You can't play a UMS map with triggers, in Melee mode. The triggers will like not run.
I know that, but HOW does an EUD trigger ruin a Melee replay?

Can you find the quote? The thread's pretty long.
The argument is that EUD triggering will make Blizzard patch StarCraft, which could ruin melee replays.

I see, but...
#1: are we 100% sure Blizzard is going to patch SC?
#2: are we 100% sure the patch is because of EUD crashing macs, or EUD in general?
#3: are we 100% sure that the patch will eliminate EUD?
1: 50%
2: yes.. (80%)
3: yes.. (75%)
I am always amazed by the genius and hard work involved in something like this. I am sure the developers are equally impressed. Like many seemingly benign discoveries, history (and comic books) has proven that someone will always try to use this type of power for evil. I do not know if the team will find this issue "patch-worthy" or if they use the information to address a side-effect possibility that could stem from it.
The important thing is to protect the community. Sometimes, this comes at the cost of upsetting the minority. If that ends up being the case, I do apologize. However, at this point, it is a decision for the designers. -JohnDS - Blizz
on Impossible Has been found or sumthing like that about EUD
Please don't pull numbers out of your ass.
Triggers don't do anything in melee. EUD's are Triggers, so they do nothing to melee.
As Psi said, people were complaining DK's discovery could ruin replays in a couple weeks, since they think a patch will come out.
To put it simply, EUD's don't affect Melee at all in a direct way. ihatett made some indirect possibilities of EUD's affecting Melee such as the replays getting corrupted, and things like new players getting turned away from melee, though those are very loose connections between EUD's and Melee.
Tho ONLY reason that EUDs are a problem is if Blizzard decides to patch? Blizzards patches stuff anyway. Like 1.12, which added some nice features. Blizzard will eventually patch the game over some other bug or glitch. EUDs aren't a problem.
To recap:
EUD's do absolutely NOTHING to melee.
The patch may come out, but who cares? Replay watchers have learned by now to keep old versions of the exe's to watch previous patch replays combined with the use of bwchart to identify which version of bw the replay is from.
Anything you hear about it ruining the game is overhyped bull:poo:.
