Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Loading Ability Equipment/Inventory Ideas

Okay I plan on using something like this, but I just wanted to post my idea so no one could claim they thought of it first biggrin.gif

So with the new ability to be able to have any unit load other units, I thought of a good inventory system.

-

You could essentially have unit "items" laying on the ground, that your main unit can load and pick up. It would work best if you could disable movement of that unit "item" so the player can't move it, only load it.

Then there could be a place to unload it, through triggers, and transfer it to like a "bank".

So for example you have a main unit that's a jimmy raynor, with a load ability.

After say killing an enemy or something, a terrain civilian for that player appears on the ground, which the jimmy can load as an "item". Then the jimmy can go to a place on the map, where it unloads the "items" he has collected and can be used for something.

This can be used for say a "fur" system after you kill a unit you can collect it's fur which you then trade in. Or it could be for collecting items that you find such as heals or any other items.

-

Another idea I had is you could store members of your "party" in one unit that holds the rest of the units that travel with you. With like a dropship system you could use that to make the units unload when you want them to.

So for example I have a jimmy raynor, I can store other units such as a ghost and marine in there that will help me attack when I need them. To get them out of the jimmy raynor, have a dropship system which will trigger the AI script exit transport.

-

I also had a concept for a fun minigame using this concept. Using a load ability you could have a minigame where you control a jimmy marine. The objective of the game is to get rid of all the terrain civilians roaming around that are owned by you. You can't kill them because they are invincible. The only thing you can do is load them up into your jimmy marine, then kill that marine therefore killing everything loaded into it, by like going to say a doodad trap that is an enemy and kill the jimmy.

Now all these ideas and concepts I'm pretty sure are very possible. I've given the load ability to a jimmy marine, so I know that can be done, and I've used the AI script exit transport on it, and loaded and unloaded units from it, and killed the jimmy marine with units in it. Didn't crash at all.

I was already doing this befopre EUD's. Pick-up/put down items is Nothing new

You're missing the point, with EUD's it actually looks like the unit is picking up the item because you can load items into the unit. And my idea is not just for items either.

Last time I checked it wasn't possible. The memcalc says "coming soon". I tried randomly placing numbers and it caused my sc to crash -.-.

... loading units into other units is definitely possible, if you don't believe me check out my "Extreme Herders" map I made in a day.
