`Chappelle's Show' done - unless it's not

Zap2it.com

(KRT) - A cast member of "Chappelle's Show" is saying that the show won't see the light of day again. But as with much of the ongoing saga of the Comedy Central hit, nothing seems set in stone.

Charlie Murphy, whose "True Hollywood Stories" yielded the show's famous Rick James sketch - and the accompanying catchphrase "I'm Rick James, censored.gif!" - is quoted in two separate news accounts Wednesday as saying "Chappelle's Show" is through.

"I don't think Dave is going to do any more," Murphy tells the New York Post. "We shot about eight shows for the third season, and they're hilarious. They'll be released on DVD, I'm sure. But that's it." (Murphy said similar things to TV Guide.)

If that's the case, then it would bring an end to the long, strange trip that has been the unrealized third season of "Chappelle's Show." After announcing in the spring that the show would return to its schedule May 31, Comedy Central had to backtrack a week or so later, following Chappelle's unannounced "spiritual retreat" to South Africa.

Chappelle later said that while he was "stressed out" over production of the show - he's involved in the writing of nearly every sketch - he was not, as rumors at the time of his disappearance suggested, doing drugs or suffering a breakdown.

A spokesperson for Comedy Central says the network's position on "Chappelle's Show" remains what it's been since the spring: It's willing to talk to Chappelle when he's ready. "The ball's in Dave's court," network head Doug Herzog told reporters at last month's TV press tour.

Comedy Central shelled out a reported $50 million last year for another two seasons of "Chappelle's Show," money that would presumably not be paid if the show doesn't return. Meanwhile, the DVD box sets of the show's first two seasons are among the top-selling TV show DVDs ever.

A representative for Chappelle couldn't be reached for comment.

No more Rick James... Or Charlie Murphy! Man, if all I can look forward to new seasons on Comedy Central is South Park and Reno 911, without Chappelle's Show, this is gonna suck.

Did you see the CNN(or kron4) interview of him at the airport? He talked a bit about how people didn't ever talk about the skits he wanted to use to educate people. Like the one on Bush and aliens, and the other educational ones I can't remember. He doesn't want to give more money to the comedy central corporation head hanchos, in my opinion. I think he feels they are just picking him for publicity and money, they didn't want him anymore until everyone started buying his dvds. After that, NOW THEY WANT HIM FOR A 3RD AND 3TH SEASON, and here we are. I think that's how he is thinking. Let's hope he comes back for a 3rd season, I heard one sketch is called "When Wiggers Strike Back". cry.gif

P.S. In opinion I think he is in Africa chillin, probably smokin or doin some other drugs. I believe he is in control though.

I hope he comes back too. If he doesn't, it will be... Bad, I guess.

Just think how Dave Chappelle has changed you life. With is "I'm Rick James, censored.gif!" to his Lil Jon and the NIGG-AR Family. He kicks ass.

Dave was smart enough to notice he out did himself, and that he couldn't meet up to 2nd season's standards. I would quit too if I was in his condition. I don't blame him at all. sadwalk.gif

Wait, I like my cat. I'll shoot the neighbor's cat instead.

Well, now we can only hope that Dave Chappelle keeps doing something to entertain us. Either movies, or something else.

Well, that's exactly why he has one of the highest rated shows, and the top selling TV Show DVD of all time, right? Up there, well, that's just your opinion. It doesn't matter so stop talking.

It had a long time ago that he was having problems with his show and that he might not come back to do it. As of August 4th, it's official.

I have to quote a quote I quoted myself? $50,000,000 for two seasons. That's not small money there. So, what do you think they're paying him to not have one of the highest rated shows? And read the last sentence in that quote too. There ya go.

He's done quite possibly most of the best comedy sketchs ever made in our generation so far. I highly doubt you've seen all of his episodes, and if you did, I'm sorry to say this, but you sir have very little taste in comedy.
