Okay, so I'm making a HUGE RPG based on Morrowind, the concept is basically open, no immediate goals or maybe even an end-goal, instead I'm making it so you can: fish/hunt for food, trade, duel, get jobs, yadda yadda. It's based on a theme of "survival" not "winning by doing ??"
Get my drift? Well, any ideas?

Buy Weapons.
Attack upgrades come while you are battling, instead when you killed an enemy, because, I should think that you would get better with a sword DURING the battle, as opposed to suddenly right after the battle.
Like, whenever there's an enemy unit on your hero, you're gaining Exp.
Don't use Marines, Hydralisks, etc. for Bows/Crossbows/Etc. Use Scourge to pick where you want to fire, but a trigger that keeps them no farter than X distance from your hero, and when you cast your spell(Disruption Web, Dark Swarm\, etc) it has a random chance of creating a single atack unit at the location for just long enough to attack once.
For armor, I thought of a system a while ago. However, this will only allow you to buy armor that's better than what you're wearing, though I don't see why you'd do otherwise...
You pay money for the armor, and depending on what kind of armor you bought, it sets your Gas to always stay at a high enough level for you to upgrade Carapace/Infantry Armor/Vehicle Plating/Etc to the right level.

Good idea.
Its Healing Station, and that wasn't very useful, almost spam like, try to contribute to the discussion, predieanalian.
Use a death count random trigger system for fishing by a pool, and so when you activate fishing skill, it will take whatever the death count is at that moment, and that will activate another trigger deciding the outcome, have a few, mostly getting nothing, and a few type of fish, which give random amounts of HP and Mana back and maybe some treasure.
For hunting have it so that they reappear at random times, either by having a few dark templar and observers moving around a certain area, and now and then creating units beneath them, through centred locations.
Fishing:
Similar to Coko's Hunting idea, have cloaked unit running around.
Whena cloaked unit touches the "Bait", a unit that you can control by moving your hero back-forth-left-right(move left-it moves left, same with right, move back, it moves back), then your Hero is constantly told to move forward or something.
Hunting:
Err... can't think of anything.
Rations: (Food)
Player has food supplie once food runs out player hp goes to 1% can buy food in towns or hunt for it.
Quests:
Well you could do stuff like D&D, say you want go though this cave only way do it is to save a girl from a orc. If you save her u can enter the cave but if u dont save her u cant enter cave and have take long way around. Stuff like that.
Bosses:
Try be creative give spells, summons and stuff even make a boss teleport mind control ur unit and make him use it from sometime then give him back. (Like in QFC)
Hiring Units:
Good rpg needs units you can hire to use. Dunno much i can say here.
Some Ideas:
You could try this its like Final Fantasy battle system kinda. Your a civilian = Hero. Can pick a class whatever class you pick depends on what weapons and armor you can buy. Say you pick Warrior. You get SCV = Short sword and Defiler = Leather armor. So units attack the civilian or armor. while ur weapon kills the units and so on. I guess thats all me got for now.
