I know there are ways to create custom Battle.net servers, and I thought it would be cool if we had one, perhaps running 1.13. We could run game without whispering people, and the maps hosted would be of higher quality than just the usual SNKEN D 2006 ZOMFG!!!11. Plus we might be able to play EUD maps over Battle.net.
Ever heard of FSGS (Free Standard Game Server)?
I sometimes play on PvPGN. Its Player vs Player Game Network.
It would be possible to make our own server, and I was actualy thinking of making my own once I fixed up one of my old computers. I'm not sure if I have enough extra bandwith is the only problem I'm dealing with right now. I'm not entirely certain how much I'll need until (if ever) I get it up and running.
I was thinking of having EUDs if I were going to make one. The problem is if we are to keep EUDs we would have to monitor the maps being played to keep any bad ones from spreading.
PvPGN sucks. Someone created a Beta Server that is extremely realistic to the actual Battle.NeT, US North and US South. If you type like /commandlist on PvPGN, you get like 100 different commands. I could look into it if we really wanted it..
Actually finding private servers is not so hard as well as finding their mods. Almost every country has its own B.net. We could find relatively fast private B.net and agree with the mod that he host a realm especially for us and EUD maps.
Blizzard has made it very clear that they do not want anyone hosting Battle.net emulators, and has taken action against people who do. We will not be supporting anything like this.
That makes sense since blizzard still needs people on their b.net servers so they can generate ad revenue.
The thing I don't get is the amount of scion ads on b.net. Let's be real now, I'd say at least 85% of the b.net community is not old enough to be buying cars, but brand name placement is brand name placement, I guess...
You didn't close it.
Blizzard doesn't want you to host your own server because it bypasses their cd key checking algorithms.
I totally understand where they are coming from in this matter, so I shall respect them.
Having our own server would be super cool. Then we wouldn't have to password games anymore, and so on.
Yeah, I agree with Yoshi. We wouldn't have to worry about other non-SEN members coming in to our games!
Also, like SuperToast said, why do they place Scion car ads on bnet? I have a couple of years until I get a car, and Quote SuperToast: I'd say at least 85% of the b.net community is not old enough to be buying cars...
So how do you make your own bnet server?
I said we're not doing it though.
